Doing more wikipedia research, we finished 10-1 in 1981 and #5 in the AP. I assume Texas was our one loss since they finished #2 in the AP? Anyone know what bowl we would've played in had we been elgible? What was the top free agent bowl back then?

We won the undisputed SWC Championship*. We would have gone to the Cotton Bowl. I believe we were recognized as Champions though because I think the controversy resulted in a change in the next few years. If you remember the locker room scenes from Thad's movie those were after beating Arkansas and they are talking about a SWC Championship in the year we were ineligible for Cotton Bowl

^Not eligible for Cotton Bowl due to NCAA sanctions

I looked, our one loss was to UT, 9 to 7....do you remember details about that game? Our non-conference was UTA, NTSU and Grambling. Talk about cupcake central :D

We'll know soon if he stays or goes. I really think he will stay. Why? he is not an NFL level QB and where can he get a better education and make more business connections that at SMU.

GO PONIES!!!

We don't know what Padron will be right now. Were Sanders, McCown and Bartel "NFL level QBs" when they left here for lower level programs?

Kp played in a stud-filled program at Southlake Carroll, comes to SMU where he takes over at QB. He plays 6 games and has success. He starts 14 games and takes his team to a conf championship. mind you, the first time the program had been in a championship since 1982. In 2011 he starts the game against A&M, and throws 2 pics and he's banished to the sidelines by an overrated, has been of a coach, and we have to endure a career backup coming in and playing like one. What should be the best year SMU has had in 28 years has now turned progressively worse each week. I really don't believe Padron gives 2 shipts as to what a wanna be, never been like you has to say about him.

We lost at Texas stadium despite holding UT to 6 First Downs and 178 yards. They absolutely shut down Dicker/James though. We had 13 First Downs. I remember the dominate defenses but there weren't hardly any big plays

I was there. Texas made a field goal over 50 yards by about 1 yard and we missed a field goal over 50 yards by about one yard. Great defensive game. Key fumble that I believe was said to have changed hands about 3 times during a long pile up.

Last years game was a sellout. Somehow I don't think the team wants to stay home again.

should have thought about that vs. USM, Tulsa, Navy, UofH

Thank you! You don't have your pick of premium bowl games when you lose 6 or 7 games in the regular season.

The other 77% were to bowls that meant something. There are so many "bowl games" today it really reduces the significance of the experience. Yes, I understand it is better than not going to one...I'm just saying...

Agreed, hopefully one day we can go to a decent bowl.

Padron did better than current McD but don't get carried away-Padron was on a total downward trajectory last year ending in the bowl vs army with a performance on the level or below McD's Navy game.

Maybe a lot of people on this board don't give two shipts about what a 20 year old college qB and his little buddies think about us. You keep saying wannabe... are you implying that everyone aspires to play college football? Will that be the highligt of your life? Geez, your only slightly less pathetic than the high school heroes bartending at the local fox and hound.

Do us all a favor and please get up off padrons Jock. You're probably reinjuring his back.
