San Diego State has entered discussions with the Big East Conference about joining that league’s proposed western division, a source with knowledge of the situation said.
The talks became more serious after negotiations broke down between the Big East and Brigham Young, which also had considered joining the league as a football-only member.
SDSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk declined comment on the status of the talks with the Big East.
If SDSU joined, it likely wouldn’t happen until at least 2013 and probably would be for football only, forcing the Aztecs to find another conference home for its other sports, possibly the Big West.

my guess is that they are hoping to keep bball at 16 members

I can't imagine the difference in costs in travel between the Big East / MWC would be anything but minimal.
It's not necessarily the cost. That's a long flight for a Wednesday night game
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
I hope this realignment with the BE gets resolved quickly. It has drug on for longer than 2 months now and I am sure some of the original 'invites' are getting really tired of the delays.
