Sitting in the pressbox, and watching much of the game through binoculars, I vote for the return of names. Please.
And while we're at it, anything that separates us from Notre Dame (and Penn State) is a good thing, in my eyes. I can't stand Penn State or Notre Dame.
We've lost a lot of games in recent years, and they haven't been what they once were, either. I say bring back the names on the jerseys, and we're sure to go on a blistering winning streak. Right?

PK wrote:You need to be more specific guys...you want the unis from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's...they were all different from each other. Even the Mustang was different at one time, and we didn't always have a mustang on the helmet. And JT, surely you don't want the same uniform of your favorite teams that brought us the DP...do you??? Personally, I really like today's uniform and helmet as you can tell from my Avatar.
Today's uniform looks too much like TT, especially with the dark blue helmets. Let's go cardinal red helmets, and royal blue like Hayden Fry, the sharp uniform genious, had from 65 - 72. I've seen film from the 50s that had the same too. The TRADITIONAL SMU helmet is cardinal red. white decals show up very well on red unlike what we have now.
No names please. If a player does well, that number gets learned, and known by everyone. Also, sells programs. GET YOUR PROGRAM! WON'T KNOW THE PLAYERS WITHOUT A PROGRAM!!

I personally favor the early 80s unis. Unis don't get dp's; jealous & bitter UT boosters & our own misplaced poor judgments get us dps.
I say early 80s because the single red stripe flanked by two blues on the helmet (i.e. no space between the three) looks the best...not the look of U of A before Stoops got there, or the look of the white helmet in the Rejuv-x ad on this web page.
All-white unis on the road are an impressive look with the right combination. The home royal blue with the helmet described above is much more big-time, and is more unique than our current Ole Methodist look.

Ok PK I will be more specific. I would opt for the 80's uniforms. Those uniforms were our "brand" just like UT has a bull on the side of the helmet and Notre Dame has Gold helmets. Eric Dickerson elevated our brand to a level that people know. I will be in Oregon on business and someone will see my class ring and say"SMU--Oh yeah Dickerson,Pony Express).
Did anyone else see the NY GIants try and knock our uni's off on Sunday! Anyway-my opinion and all are respected here.

There are a lot of different opinions out there about the unis...that's what keeps things interesting. I just got tired of the white helmets. Looked like a lot of ping pong balls out there after awhile. I never did like the Royal Blue jerseys...but then that's just me. I was partial to the dark navy blue there for quite awhile, but the red jerseys have grown on me. Anyway, nobody has asked me or any of us for that matter, so I guess they will just do what they want to do.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe the official school colors are Harvard Red and Yale Blue. Not that I expect us to rip off their colors but shouldn't we be sticking with those primary colors and mix in white where necessary. Though I have to agree that the official uniform in most peoples eyes were the uniforms worn pre-DP, though I think Hayden Fry's choice of uniforms was the best.

When you have a lot of new players or guys who have been waiting their turn for a few years, names are a big help. Bring 'em back.

I'm a student at SMU and I attend every football game, I think the names need to be returned to the jerseys. I know entirely too manyof the guys to have everyones name memorized and when I'm on the field working for Mustang Ropers I cannot have a Program to pull out to cheer someone on each time they're on the field. As for my other classmates, they don't want to take the time out to miss the action to look up names in a program even when they are in the stands. And I don't think the lack of names being on the jerseys had anything to do with those 4 wins either. It's a matter of new guys such as Wilton McCray and Jon Lindley working with the players we already had to make our team stronger

That's nice, pretty-p, but you were so busy with Mustang Ropers you also failed to notice it was only three wins.

Names aside, are the uniforms going to be tweaked at all for the 2005 season?
Personally, I'd like to see a return of the blue jerseys.
And unless it's cold, let's lose the Terrell Owens tights between the knee and the cleats.

So you're the one.
This made me think of "Alice's Restaurant".
"You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of them. And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement."
