Lots of openings, and we know June will be mentioned

Post by RGV Pony »

..and the first one to mention June is Arizona State.

footballscoop is sometimes pretty good, sometimes kind of out there, anyway, fun to read through "what they hear" once in awhile.

Arizona State: As we reported last Sunday, Dennis Erickson has stepped down. We have been hearing for a while now that June Jones might wind up with this job, Sumlin will get a look as well.

Our program needs a new voice and a new direction. Hope it works out for him somewhere else.

Wouldn't be a disaster if he left.

Recruiting would suffer tremendously if he left! I would view it as a huge loss this year.

Folks will make a run at Jones but I hope he stays. We are vastly improved. Our recruiting has improved. Our Defense is a real defense. We are going bowling for the third year in a row. Perfect, no. But who do we get at this point? Who has a reputation for taking half rebuilt programs and continuing to improve them? Jones will move down the road at some time. But hopefully not for a couple or 3 more years. Those are years he needs to finish this rebuilding job.?

No wind or rain in Arizona to ruin Run and Shoot Offense. Not sure about Football Stadium Lighting.

If he goes to a BCS job, he better make sure that he has the physicalness to match because that style of ball isn't going to jive in that kind of conference.

If the guy keeps talking about how the wind affected this game or that game with his Spew N Blow offense, how the heck is that going to work lining up against USC and Washington week after week?

Keep in mind he picked off some of those BCS teams when he was on the island. It's just an out-of-body experience when teams go out there.

I hope he stays but we can win if he decides to leave. The school and administration WANT TO WIN. June is the first coach given that support. If he leaves, go grab Mike Leach. We wouldn't miss a beat.

Right, and the dry air makes the ball trajectory crisper, which makes throws and catches a lot easier.

We're not getting another legit FBS coach at this point even with CoC money to throw around. Getting June was the perfect storm. June leaves right now and this program will be headed back to the crapper (recruiting class scuttled, California pipeline gone, transfers galore).

no - you are wrong on that one. 2 M a year buys you a good coach - period. It would be a great job for the next guy - B.E. is the easiest potential path for a non top 25 to hit BCS pay dirt. Based in Dallas instead of some hopeless outpost. Texas recruiting. We would have a long list of great coaches to choose from.

Not ready for him to leave but if he does we are fine. You are selling us short. This deal is about the money and always has been.

Bullish*t. 2M a year would get a serious HC plus if done deal next week actually happens then the platform of a BCS conference will make SMU very attractive. We could get a top notch coach who hopefully could recruit Texas and not throw bombs down the sideline on 3rd and 1.
