IMO, none of these BCS schools would be interested in June Jones. If that possibility is a concern for some , breath easily. Right now, Sumlin is the only guy in CUSA that the big ones might want and even that is a stretch.

I just saw that.

UCLA knows the Run and Shoot was made obsolete around the same time as the Beta Max. They're moving forward not looking back. No reason to go after June.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I don't subscribe to Scout.

I bet Mitch is the one who made contact on June's behalf

Kevin Sumlin and Larry Fedora. Don't tell Mr Pony to breath easy he is probably hoping for June to leave.

He has been able to get us over the hump in terms of having the kind of talent and depth to win at the CUSA level, but his scheme and cult-like devotion to the Run & Shoot will get us killed in the Big East. I've just come to grips with the fact that if its 3rd and 1 we are going to throw the ball deep down the sidelines. There isn't another school in America that does that as much as we do and it drives me fu*king crazy. But he is what he is. June deserves all the credit in the world for getting us out of the dungeon of college football. But for 2M a year in CUSA you better damn well do at least that. We haven't reached that next level and its unlikely we will do it next year. In 2013, should we actually go to the Big East, we are going to need to play at a higher level otherwise we will be 3-9 or 4-8 every year.

Our expectations are more than just bowl eligible now because we are bowl eligible this year and people are not happy with the play of the football team. And since we may not be bowl eligible next year he might be trying to get out now.

I do believe the Dallas winds (and the thought of playing in Big East weather) could be an additional factor that will influence JJ's decision....and I think it is a given that he will have a decision to make.

He may be thinking he has taken this program as far as he can...not to mention his disappointment with our inability to improve our fan following. Still plenty of local alumni who just don't care and may never care.

PAC 12 has the best shot at luring him. UCLA and ASU are a lot closer to his beloved Hawaii than Dallas

If JJ bolts, it will be critical for SMU to get a coach (and staff) that can recruit Texas. Turner Gill and Ramon Flanagan are available and might be interested in joining someone's staff

That would be pretty funny since so many Cheerleaders have about 30 ready excuses for our ridiculous attendance-they are generally bogus excuses-the real reason being simply that not too many SMU alumni, family and friends are really too interested in College Football. In other words our own family is putting a ceiling on how far and how high this program can rise. Jones may see that-I agree its very possible especially after that fiasco Senior Day

I agree about the fanbase being frustrating...I think we all do....but the problem is so much deeper than people are willing to recognize. Our own alumni literally consider SMU football to be a joke - they come to tailgate with no thought of going to the game, and when they do show up it's like they walked into a minor league baseball game to hang out for an inning or two before going on about their day.

Very few interested fans, and even less than that are vocal about it in any way. We can't expect Dallas, much less the country, to take us seriously when our own alumni see our program as a joke. I don't know what turns it around...June may be seeing the same thing. As long as our "fans" are more interested in the Texas game or going to do whatever else on a Saturday we will never be big time....even in an AQ conference.

I am indifferent to June leaving whenever he does...he was the right guy at the right time, and when he leaves, he leaves...but whoever comes in needs to be able to rally the school and alumni base much better than he has done, because indifference to the program appears to be back to pre-JJ (i.e., 2000-2006) levels for most people. Pathetic but true that they don't see a 7-win season with a low-end bowl birth as any better than 3-4 wins and no bowl. Still a Boulevard, still the rest of the Saturday to do something other than watch SMU football.

JJ has hurt his brand over the last 4 yes at SMU.
When he came here he was the coach I'd 2 hiesman caliber QBs. Just gone 12-0, played in a BCS bowl against an SEC power.

Fast forward 4yrs and you have a coach who is 1-11,7-6,6-7,7-5, and has pretty meager offensive stats to boot. Plus, he did his work in one of the worst conferences in the country. Compile this record at Miss St In the SEC and you are a hot commodity - do it in CUSA and it is a yawner.

I don't see JJ going to a PAC 12 team - they will take a chance on a younger coach with more upside.

Interesting comment:

Bio: Jones inherited a losing streak of 18 games when he took over Hawaii, but he quickly turned the program around with a 9-4 finish in his first season in Honolulu. After manufacturing what has been called by some as the biggest program turnaround in NCAA history, Jones left the islands in 2008 to take on the same task with SMU. Repairing broken programs is nothing new for Jones, which is what could make him a target for Zenger. Jones has not yet achieved the same success with SMU as he did at Hawaii, leaving questions surrounding his coaching style in tougher conferences.
