The way Cole seemed to state it is that it could be St. Petersburg, FL but just not Dallas. It's not Hawaii only but just not Dallas.

Im sure Cole is happy to be playing in any bowl game. Someone asked Cole if he had a bowl preference and he gave an honest answer. I don't see how its whining or [deleted].

agreed. I've said that for a couple days but these guys won't let perspective get In the way of a good rant.

The feeling amongst the players is not necessarily that they want a trip to Hawaii and that they will only be up for a game there. The statement has been and will remain "anywhere but Dallas." In the old SWC days we would have given our left nuts to play a bowl in Dallas, but in those days playing in Dallas meant we were conference champions and playing in a New Year's Day Bowl. Bowl games are supposed to be fun and a reward. It's a break from your normal routine. The players--the guys who earned a bowl berth--do not get that by staying home. Playing in Dallas is more work for them and a treat to a largely apathetic and/or blue haired fan base. (That is not meant as a shot at the elderly fans who support SMU athletics. Just a statement concerning the fact that for the most part you sit on your hands during games.)
Even as a fan, I don't want another bowl game in Dallas. We could have beaten Army 70-0 last year and I would have walked away saying I did not enjoy the experience. The AFB was just a 14th game on the schedule last year--a glorified fall scrimmage. The only break in our normal routine was that we did not sit in our season seats. But at least the stadium was full. It really beat playing in a half empty Cotton Bowl as is likely to happen if we play in the Ticket City Bowl. And for the record, if Ohio State is slotted for that bowl, we will be playing Ohio State in name only. Those guys expect trips to the Rose Bowl. They don't give a rat's @$$ about playing against a CUSA team in Dallas.
I dunno Dubs, They looked like the ohio that I know and hate on Saturday. I can promise you that there would be one living room in Virginia cheering violently for the Mustangs vs ohio on January 2nd if that happened. MINE. How to tune up the crowd, well umm uh, you would think after losing for 20 years and suddenly having success SMU would have boisterous crowd. Is just winning games not enough now? SMU could go 8-5 with a win over a Big Ten Team and not just any Big Ten Team, one of THE B1G in Big Ten (even if it's a bad year for THEM they are still pretty damn good). Why wouldn't that be enough to get everybody to stand up and go crazy? When you buy a ticket it's pretty much a liscense to act a fool (up to a point of course) Just Do It.
You get one shot against a big name in your own home town Ponyfans.... Believe me Urban Meyer won't be coming to Ford Stadium any time soon. The kids don't want to play at home? HUH??? SHOW THEM HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM AND THAT WILL CHANGE.

Man, Dubs I don't know about that. I'll give you a perfect example. Every year I go up to watch the Gophers play one game at TCF Bank Stadium and pick an opponent. When Ohio State was on the 2010 schedule, it was a no brainer. And it didn't matter that Tim Brewster was canned and this was going to be an exhibition game. It was a chance to see Ohio State.
I already looked at the 2012 schedule, and it's a no-brainer who I'm going to see -- Michigan.
Why? Because it's Michigan.

Also you would be playing an Ohio State team that has never had a losing record not a one of them, hell they had never even trailed Michigan in a Football game their entire time in Columbus. A losing record could happen this year. The coaching staff is looking for jobs and trust me they would show up with every intent of ramming it down your throat. They are a 6-6 football team that could very easily have 9 or 10 wins and be going to another BCS game.
BUT I see where the kids are coming from, You don't go to Ohio to play in Dallas for a Bowl game of course maybe a BCS title game at some point. I'd Imagine the Dallas kids feel that you don't go to Dallas to play a bowl game in well, Dallas. USC is cool with getting to the Rose Bowl though. I mean that's the Rose Bowl not the Ticket City Bowl I guess.

This team isn't ready for that shot, Ohio State would kill us whether the Buckeyes are into the game or not. In this town teams don't get love until they develop a product worthy of it.

I agree that there will some people who go just to see The Ohio State. But like any SMU game, I don't see SMU drawing more than 15,000 fans. I will go to watch them play whomever, but I don't know how exciting a game with two disinterested teams will be.

Re: Players want to go to an out of town Bowl
I just don't know how disinterested we would be in playing that game. TCU took advantage of that opportunity when it beat a disinterested USC team in the sun bowl. That was USC's problem.
We were interested in playing Nevada and it showed. We weren't interested in playing Army and that showed. If Ohio State isn't interested, then shame on the Buckeyes.
So many of these bowls are based on which team really shows up and want to play the game.
But I give us a little more credit for wanting to show ourselves against a historically great program.

bowls are based on money. nothing more, nothing less. don't kid yourself to think there is ANY other factor in there.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

No point at bitchin' at the guy that is there about the guy that isn't though. You're both there, not much you can do about it. Not saying you are either. I guess yell for 2 people? Or try to? Bring a bottle in to pass around maybe? That'll wake them up!
