Notre Dame driving BE expansion - Glad we have Steve O!

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, I hadn't seen it. I have no idea about the validity of this website, but worth a read.

Excerpt: In addition to the Big East TV deal with NBC, Notre Dame also has their own plans of launching their own television network. TornBySports was informed that the Big East must remain a viable conference for that to be possible for Notre Dame’s non-football sports. The Big East would allow them to use that network for their additional sports.

The instability of the Big East is in question at this time, and if the conference were to fold in any way, this television network would not be possible for Notre Dame and would have to make other plans to broadcast their non-football sporting events. That might not be possible without the help from the Big East. It is essential for Notre Dame that the Big East does survive and keep "big boy conference" status from a football standpoint.

funniest part of the article is the possibility of schools cancelling their games with BYU, including ND, BSU, UCF, and UH

Embrace Superfriends
Trey was using the powers of Gamehendge to allow the show to continue, to give the band the strength it needed to help break through this barrier

If ND guarantees home and home with BYU and maintains annual games with Navy and Air Force, the Irish can support additonal games in a new Big East, i.e. alternate TX games with Houston/ SMU, alternative FL games with USF/UCF, and then schedule Rutgers (in lieu of Pittsburgh) for a semi-annual NYC game, ND would play 6 Big East games a year. Not bad, plus ensure the long term viability of the conference for ND BB and non-revenue sports.

If you then add and alternative Ohio River teams, Louisville/Cinicinnati you are up to seven. With this schedule, they could maintain MI, MSU, Purdue, Stanford and USC and get the best of both worlds without full ND FB membership.

This is how ND help creates the new BE FB conference, while guaranteeing the rest of their sports have a home. Perhaps a new NBC contract for the BE with ND as the guarantor?

ND could have saved the Big East if they had just joined in football 10 years ago. Miami and BC never would have left, and ND probably would have won the conference a couple times and been to more BCS games.

You are right. ND needs a conference. Any conference would take them, but the BE is one that they could potentially dominate politically and on the field.
