Usually the Hawaii Bowl is the only thing on and dominates ESPN's highlights for an entire day.
That won't be the case this year.
There is an entire slate of NFL games during the day Saturday because the league doesn't want everyone playing Christmas Day.
So the 'bonus' of being the only game in town is gone. Hawaii Bowl highlights won't show up until 45 minutes into SportsCenter.

Great the one thing I was depending on when Im travelling...

Not a problem. The last NFL game will end around 4:30 Pacific (7:30 Eastern) and there is NO NFL game that night. So when the Hawaii Bowl kicks off at 5 Pacific (8 Eastern), it will be the only game on.

Are we still pushing the "JJ + Hawaii = ratings bonanza" stuff? Didn't happen in '09. Won't happen now. Especially after a full day of top-level NFL football. (BTW, a retired coach neighbor I've gotten interested in SMU football told me, unsolicited, that SMU-Rice was the best junior-high game he'd ever seen. Ouch.)

BE/MAC playin game or lowest ranked BCS conference champion. Winner of those games get three slots, that leaves 9 left. SEC-LSU, ACC-VT/Clem, B12-OSU, P12-OR, B1G-MSU/WU are in. That leaves 3 at large. This year that would go to Alabama, Stanford and Arkansas at this point in time. First round SBC/WAC winner v.Alabama, BE/MAC v. MSU/WU, CUSA/MWC v. OR, Ark. v. Stanford. Now tell me that the 11th rated bowl, wouldn't prefer Alabama/SBC/WAC to Big 10 #4 v. SEC #4. That would work and would in essence allow for the Cinderellas to have a shot to knock off the big boys. For example this year the play-in game would be huge between Houston and Boise. The winner would get to play Oregon who is entirely beatable by either one of them. Then they would get to play the winner o fthe BE/MAC v. MSU/WI game. Again winnable. That would set up a semi final game against probably LSU would would have disposed of the winner of Ark/Stanford.

I dont want to sound like a [deleted], but you realize that is an idealistic improbable dream. Big 12 only gets one team to go, just like CUSA. If there is a playoff it will be top 2 teams of each AQ conference playing against each other. The will take all the other bowls for their other .500 teams. Then the non-AQ (especially MW/CUSA) will just play in its own little tourney for a shot at lower side bowls. Playoff style in what you state is by far fair, just unrealistic because of greed. I like the idea of playoffs and if you dont make it then you continue with bowls (just like normal only less of them).

I figure if they're going to have a playoff, they have to have a cinderella script in there in order to hit the bonanza they get with March Madness. Why do people watch Vermont vs. Kansas? Because once in a blue moon Vermont wins. Or George Mason-UConn? Part of the thrill of that tournament is that anything can happen and you have some great upsets. Think of the office pools for football tourney.

Conferences won't give up their champ games, too much $$$ involved.

Plus-one makes the most sense. It's only one more game for two teams per year. For whatever reason, people are opposed to having too many games in the season. (nevermind the month long NCAA basketball tournament in various locales)

Apparently because of the injuries that football causes forces NCAA to maintain 12-15 games. Personally I would rather them start early august and push everything to Feb. I know student athletes wouldnt be fond having to play 1 and 1/4 semesters, but it sure would be awesome to have so much football.

Yeah, you could keep the 12-game regular season schedule, with a conference championship, bowl game, and plus-one NCG, and still only two teams would have to play 15 games a season. Shouldn't be a big issue

What are the two stops between DFW and HNL? PHX & LAX or SFO?

Nope, just pointing out that NFL games that day will be OVER by the time the bowl game kicks off.

pretty similiar for all them-some also go through Houston others Denver. There's seems to be a lot more demand this year-I note at least 3-4 major Hotels are booked up too that I know weren't at this time in 2009. Today your basic trip for 2 at 4 Star Waikiki Hotel plus rental car is looking at about $3500 for 12/21-12/26. A little less for 12/20-12/25. That has risen significantly in last 1-2 weeks b y about $700-800.

Can someone explain how this could happen?

Or is this June blowing smoke trying to advance an agenda?

So Miss wins, they go to Liberty or whatever. Ticket City gets Houston. Hawaii gets SMU. Tulsa plays BYU in AFB. Whatever east team qualified for a bowl goes to St Pete or wherever.

So was June quoting the wrong team? If Houston wins, it's likely BCS bound so where would USM fall?

Apparently a lot of Southern Miss fans think they are going to Ticket City Bowl rather than Liberty(or Compass).

I'd buy that. Trip to Big D would be high cotton for the folks from Hattiesburg
