I'm not going to post all the numbers but here is an abbreviated version showing the grade inflation:

2005-124 Three Stars or above
___________________

2011-271 Three Stars or above
2012 (SO FAR-they are still adding as we've seen)-252

This grade inflation and is across the board throughout the Nation. Apparently though it excites the subscribers. For context, Texas produces in the neighborhood of 365 or so Division 1A commitments per year. 3 Star used to mean Top 1/3rd of the Class or so. Now low 3 Stars may not even be in the top half of the Class-really may not be Top 2/3 of the Class

Ok, but what's your point? Did Bennett recruit as well as JJ, just in a deflated system? You're the self-appointed recruiting guru, you tell me.

Never said that-in fact I said the opposite-any more than I'm claiming Dennis Franchione at Texas State is outrecruiting Bennett's 2007 SMU Class right now because he has 5 Three Stars this year already as a provisional Division 1A school still playing in a Division 1-AA Conference
I'm saying quit wasting time comparing stars in the two different periods because the stars are greatly inflated
If you are going to compare then either look at Offers(the best) or Class ranking

Well, according to June year five for him -- unlike Meyer -- is going to be a total flop.

2012 has yet to be played. A lot of Hall of Fame coaches poor mouth and sandbag their entire careers. Darrell Royal was the worst offender. Doubt Jones is really that pessimistic. Compared to Ron Meyer, June has 3 bowl invites out of his first four years. Ron Meyer: 0. And Ron was a great coach. C'mon. I know some people don't like the R&S. But you have to give this man his due. He has taken us from nowhere to playing games in December.

Yawn.

Still want to know why, after what will be two recruiting classes since the "one and a half classes away" edict was issued, Jj now warns of a dropoff

Thanks for making us better than the 50th worst team in D1!

I think most people who are calling for his departure are just venting, poor judgement, or the fact he still loves hawaii more than smu (combo of all). There is no doubt that hes the best at rebuilding teams (especially dead ones). Like all people he has room for improvement, he needs to work on his charisma and needs to embrace SMU. For now, we will end up just taking our bowl games, and pushing the benchmark for 8+ win reg seasons. No mattter, he probably deserves a plaza with a statue of him (just without the lei).

He needs to win at this rate or better for at least 5 more years before this is even realistic. 7-5 now is good, about the best that we could have hoped for 4 years ago, the next few seasons will tell if this comeback is for real. If it is June is getting on bad [deleted] statue.

I think it says a lot that we're now concerned with our coach's charisma and "embracing SMU" rather than losing 8-11 games a year.

Wow?..we get your point but you really can't compare going to Bowl games then to Bowl games now. There were only 13 total Bowl games back in 1976-77 when Meyer came to SMU and even less D-1 football teams vs 35 bowl games now......there are more than three(3) times as many Bowl options now than back then. SMU was Bowl eligible (by today's standards with min 6 wins) for 7 years in a row from 1980 to 1986, just for the record. And yes Ron Meyer didn't get in a Bowl until his 5th season, but you also can't compare the rugged Southwest Conference in the late 70's and early 80's to today's CUSA either.

SMU Football records:
1986 6 5 0
1985 6 5 0
1984 10 2 0
1983 10 2 0
1982 11 0 1
1981 10 1 0
1980 8 4 0
