Funny how great players make great coaches. Know one was knocking Sumlins door down last year when they were 5-7. No Keenum? No great coach!

One year with a great record makes a coach a genius. 12-0 at Hawaii made JJ one as well.

The DMN reports that ASU backed off because Sumlin is already a done deal at TAMU.

If that is true then Sumlin is really stepping into a firestorm. Ag expectations border on the unrealistic. Especially going to the sec.- they will get stomped the first couple of years.

I'm sure he and Leigh Steinberg will throw his name in there to get raises for him, his staff and force the university to create more athletic friendly majors.

Then he'll bow out saying how much he loves SMU and wants to be here for the long term....pretty normal for any coach who knows he has a lot of power at his disposal.
