Dallas Bowl?

Post by stang_fan »

Just wanted to know your thoughts. Is our Stadium currently large enough to house a bowl? and if so we should try to get something like the Fort Worth Bowl at TCU at ford and call it the Dallas bowl.

There are already too many meaningless bowls as it is. Like the Fort Worthless bowl the payout wouldn't be much, but we would have to have more seats than Ford currently has to generate enough money to afford any payout. At the rate bowls are beening created, it won't be long before every 6-5 team in America will be in a "Bowl" (Yawn). BTW, Dallas already has a Bowl...it's called the Cotton Bowl.

I've heard of that one. I also know in an off year with a 6-5 record when we do get good we will not be playing in it. Let me rephrase that...we will never be playing in it even if we are great. Big 12 pushers run it.

At the rate were going you'll only need to win about 4 games to get ito a bowl...
Thats what I thought.

Actually SMU has already done that in 1963. With a 4 - 6 record, beating Roger Staubach's #2 NAVY 32 - 28, maybe scaring #1 Texas 12 - 17 I think, we played in the Sun Bowl losing to Oregon 14 - 21.

I think I read somewhere that the NCAA had passed a rule setting the maximum number of sanctioned bowls at the current number. In order to have a Dallas bowl another one would have to fail. I personally would like to see the Tidee Bowl. Where the two worst teams in the country battle it out to see who gets the coveted silver plunger trophy. Obviously, those two teams more than any other program could use the extra month of practice. Have the game right before the BCS championship. I'd bet it would have quite a following.

while the tidee bowl might be appealing to the average television viewer, I bet you would have a really hard time getting any teams to agree to go and play the game.

Pretend you're a coach and you have one of the two worst records in the Country would you: (a) want to play a game to get an extra month of practice in, or (b) refuse to play because you might actually lose that one, too. I'd want an extra month of practice using my underclassmen to start to rebuild for the next year so that I might show improvement and keep my job.

yeah, but say you have all that extra practice time, and you don't win, how is that going to look when you are on the recruiting trail, also how will it look to kids when you are trying to recruit them, and they see you on tv in the 'tidee' bowl' I don't know too many people who would want to be associated with that, especially not when their teammates and friends start teasing them about going to a 'toilet' of a university.
