Ford Staduim Gaining Popularity as HS Playoff Venue

Postby Stallion » Sat Dec 04, 2004 7:12 pm

nobody mentioned it all week but I hear from second hand reports that there was a huge crowd today for the Ennis/ Sherman playoff game at Ford Stadium. Did anybody go? Also, Lincoln and Sulpher Springs played at Ford a couple of weeks ago. Those are some pretty good recruiting hotbeds to show off our facility. Good work SMU on getting these HS playoffs done.

Darn right - that's a GREAT move, getting those kids on campus. I was down by campus today to see some friends and do a little christmas shopping and drove by the stadium. Didn't know about the games today, but it looked like a decent crowd. But regardless of the crowd, getting those players and their parents on our campus is huge.

Not only is it good to get those folks on campus, it helps keep cobwebs from forming on the seats not used at SMU games. I'm a fan of those huge crowds they get in Moody for HS graduations too for the same reason.

It's amazing how many DFW area residents have never set foot on the SMU campus. I agree with those who say once we get 'em out to visit the campus, the odds of recruiting more locals will improve significantly. Unless you have an offer to play in front of 80,000 every week, I think we can put Ford Stadium up against anyone else's facility.

Without question. It's not as big as the stadiums at most other schools, of course, but as far as a place to play -- I've never seen a nicer stadium. It is a first-class facility.
