I hope he stays on and gets SMU football to the next level, but you have to recognize that he made a huge blunder. He is on SMU's payroll, but is working for himself. Also, while I have no delusions of our place in college football, the SMU head coaching position is a better job than a coordinator job at any university in the country including Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, etc. We were able to hire Phil Bennet away from his defensive coordinator position at Kansas State while they were in their peak years and we were in our abyss so I definitely think we can do better this time around given our recent results, relaxed restrictions on recruiting, and willingness to pay well.
We don't really know what all June did and didn't do, we're going off an interent message board.
He has a right to look around, and with all of the turnover in BCS jobs this year, he'd be doing himself a disservice if he didn't gauge interest from Pac-12 schools. Remember, he's a West Coast guy (if you couldn't tell from the lei)
As for who we can hire, hopefully we won't have to have that discussion.
He has every right to look around and leave if that is what he wants, but based on his comments, he is definitely a hypocrite. His hypocrisy and the fact that he has made his sentiments public are what bother me because at the end of the day I think he will stay. Meanwhile he will have cost SMU and himself some valuable commitments from this weekend.
That remains to be seen.
But I mean, who are we to [deleted] and moan about this? The guy resurrected us from the frickin' abyss. If he did all of this crap then yeah, it's a [deleted] move, even if it's for leverage to stay at SMU, but we're kind of hostages to him at this point. Maybe he's sick of coaching in front of 10-15,000 empty seats after beating our ranked, archrival on the road?
Why is anyone giving June the benefit of the doubt? He's $hitting on SMU and all of our fans.
I only want him to stay so we don't lose this recruiting class. He's soft and hasn't developed any kind of "high powered offense" since he's been here. He can stay one more year, lead us to another 7-5 record and then go wherever he wants.
Screw you, June
"I love coaching here at SMU University" -June Jones
Also if he can outright lie about his spirituality in relation to coming to SMU why can't he fake being an SMU fan and a Texan just like any other coach? He lies when it is in his best interest, not when it is the polite and smart thing to do? If he were smart he would wear a cowboy hat and boots, smile, add millions to his bank account and spend his vacation time in Hawaii. Instead he chooses to wear Hawaiian shirts, leis, and talks about helping Hawaii, going to the Hawaii Bowl and counting the days to go back to Hawaii. It truly doesn't bother me, but I know it bothers most of the fan base. At the end of the day I only care about wins and losses, but you do reap what you sow. As a comparison, look at Ron Meyer and how he fit the SMU image perfectly. I know he was corrupt, but everyone at the time was so I still consider him an ace recruiter and think it is because he was a tremendous salesmen.

Again, be careful what you wish for. Do you remember when we sucked **** for 20 years?

We need a gator skin boot wearin', escalade drivin', bespoke Mr. HP kinda guy. Big smile and over the tip personality who is kissin hands and shakin babies at MiCocina on Friday nights so everyone can say "hey there's Coach!"
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Exactly the reason why I have lost a lot of respect for him! He has us by the balls! We either play into his hand or part ways. If he wants to renegotiate his contract at SMU he should approach Orsini and the circle of champions. If he wants to leave he could do so more discretely and once he decides to leave then he can thank SMU, the circle of champions, alums, and fans and say that it was a higher calling. Instead he has made this thing public and it looks like a messy divorce.
Say Jones does leave. Best candidate out there is Jim Tressell in my opinion. Yes I know our current roster is not what he needs for his style of play. It seemed to me like the whole OSU thing was not that big of a deal... Mike Price nailed a hooker and got busted and got hired at UTEP.
