JJ's biggest successes were with the institutional changes he helped usher in with lower admissions standards, new majors, better facilities and the pending IPF. His work on the field has left something to be desired and there are likely stronger candidate out there that are more in touch with the current state of college football who can take advantage of the changes that JJ brought in. JJ was the right person at the right time, but it appears that it is time for the next coach. Perhaps JJ knows this and that is part of the rationale behind him looking for a new job. He realizes that he isn't the right coach to take the next step with SMU.

if you put any stock in msg boards, ASU fans absolutely hate this potential hire. They say what we do - Gimmick offense gets beaten by better defenses.
If not for this year's possibly stellar recruiting class, I'd almost be excited about a new coach for smu to get us where we need to go.
East Coast Mustang: If UAB can get the offensive coordinator from an Arkansas team that is ranked in the top 10 this season I know SMU can do much better than that.
