See, even the clergy can't use that as an excuse!!
But, some people who secretly wished for Hawaii cause the excuse is built in will now have to do some real "soul searching."

Re: Where is everyone staying in Birmingham
How many did this game get last year?
i actually think we will have a good turn out - but for us that will be 5k. If Pitt brings that many and you get the locals who support the game it will be fine.
Birmingham is a great little city - really friendly people, lots of good golf, surprisingly good restaurants. Its not that far, and there are no guarantees we will get another of these any time soon - so quit being little wussies and go already.

So 15k in a 70k stadium will be ok? Yowsers!
Re: Where is everyone staying in Birmingham
For those of us fans that want to go to the game but can't swing airfare + hotel stay, will there be a bus? Anybody carpooling?
I know B'Ham is an "easy" trip, but I'm a recent grad, and I've already expended my travel budget. I had assumed we were playing in Dallas or Hawaii.

Also, any chance the mustang club puts together a package that includes air?
The MC deals are always overpriced. Just use Expedia or Southwest Airlines packed deals. You can get all in for less than $450. Then pay for the MC Tailgate at the game....

But what about the plastic lanyard? That's not worth $200?

Redmont Hotel looks legit. rooftop bar. a few blocks from a decent cluster of other bars. can likely catch their shuttle to go the 2-3 miles to the stadium. booking my room there shortly.

Most are probably flying. Hope you can catch a ride somehow. Maybe check on the Facebook pages for SMU Mustangs or Red and Blue Army.

Sheraton is the team hotel and they have a $129 special fan rate that you can book here, http://www.sheratonbirmingham.com/bbva-bowl
They also have free airport transportation and free transportation to the game.

Re: Where is everyone staying in Birmingham
For the not rich alums, renting a car is what less than 100 bucks a day, hotel for 2 nights is like 300, and 50 bucks or less for 2 days of food comes up to be what 550 a person, and adding another person or 2 dramatically lowers it. This should be do-able for everyone.
However for everyone, what will hurt attendance dramatically is the fact that this game is during recruitment week... in other words all active member MUST be at their frat/soro houses. As you know 50% of the university is greek.... so yeah its up to the alumni!

Ugh....that SUCKS about rush week. I remember what a pain in the [deleted] that was. IFC should seriously consider getting it all done by Thursday so students can travel.
