Sean Carney To Decide This Weekend

Dallas D'Lineman Down To Two
By TI Staff Report
Date: Dec 6, 2004

got a 1,210 on the SAT. I just took it again last weekend, I expect to get higher. Grades? I've got an 89. I don't know what that translates to on a 4.0 scale

Sean Carney, the 6-4 240 defensive lineman from Dallas, Texas, Jesuit High School told scout.com Monday evening that he will make an official visit to Tulane this weekend and make up his mind next week between Tulane and SMU.

Here's how the talk with Sean Carney went.

TI: Sean, how's recruiting going?
SC: I visited SMU last weekend, I'll visit Tulane this weekend. That's about it for now.

TI: Those are your top two?
SC: I'd say so, right now.

TI: What position do you project to play in college?
SC: I played defensive tackle in a 5-2 this season. I'm being recruited as a defensive end.

TI: Let me get some basic information from you. Height, weight, 40 time?
SC: 6-4, 240. 4.8 in the 40.

TI: And what about your bench press, squat?
SC: I bench 320# and my last squat was 475#.

TI: With schools like SMU and Tulane recruiting you, you must be a pretty good student. Is that the case?
SC: I got a 1,210 on the SAT. I just took it again last weekend, I expect to get higher. Grades? I've got an 89. I don't know what that translates to on a 4.0 scale.

TI: What attracts you to these two schools?
SC: Well, SMU. I wasn't as much into SMU before my visit. I had a real good visit. I felt I fit in well. I liked the place. It has a great business school. That's what I want to get into when I'm done.

Tulane. They weren't recruiting me early. They told me that their recruiter for this area left so they came in on me late. but they've been recruiting me hard the last couple of months. Their recruiter now is Coach Smiley. But SMU's been in on me a lot longer.

TI: Have you seen both teams play?
SC: I've seen SMU play. I saw Tulane play one game, at TCU a couple of weeks ago.

TI: Sean, do you have any other visits set up?
SC: I've got visits set to Rice on January 14, Baylor on January 21 (it was going to be January 14 but we moved it) and to Harvard on January 7, but I don't know if I'm going to make those visits.

TI: So you'll probably make up your mind after your visit this weekend?
SC: I think i will.

Good stuff - thanks for the update.

Come on, Sean, stay close to home, where your family and friends can see you play. And you want a good business degree? Sounds like your decision's already been made.

bring on another attacking DE. It's tie for the SMU defense to put some pressure on opposing QBs. Come on in and join Cory Muse, Justin Rogers, Kyle Griffin attack from the outside as Jones, Mouton & Bonds jam the middle. I shouldn't fail to mention Karrington, Berry and Denman. It's nice to finally be building some depth in the trenches. It will be even nicer when the 2-deep is loaded with JRs & SRs. That's only 2 years away now, folks.

Definitely. Another guy coming off the edge -- especially with the non-stop motor that Recruiting Guru describes -- is much-needed. The biggest boost will be the hopefully-healthy return of Muse and Rogers. If Jamar Bey comes on a little (he played in the last couple of games) and if Muse and Rogers are back and healthy (big IFs, I realize), would it be possible to redshirt Carney to allow him to get bigger and stronger, and to learn the defense for a year?

Sean, take ALL your visits. Look around, no need to rush a decision, you only get to go through the recruiting process once. You might as well enjoy it.

So you're saying Baylor's after him, too?

Don't listen to our BU friend, Sean! (You're welcome, SicEm). Enjoy New Orleans, then call Coach Bennett and announce you're going to be a Mustang!

I was just joking around because of some of the prior comments. I know Baylor has shown some interest in him, but to what degree, I don't know. He sets up a visit with us, but then acts like he might not take it, so it doesn't sound like there's a whole lot of interest on his part...who knows what will happen? I guess that's why so many people follow recruiting...

Sean.......Jesuit to SMU makes sense!

Postby Special_Delivery_Smu_Fans » Thu Dec 09, 2004 10:17 pm

Sean,

We need your help in turning around this SMU program and I know you would play a huge part in making that dream happen.

Being a Jesuit grad myself.....I hope you make the right decision for football and for life after football.

I think you will find SMU is a great choice.

I can assure you that SMU will allow more of your friends, family and fellow "Jebbies" to cheer for you in person over the next four years.

Sean we hope that SMU is your next stop after life at 12345 Inwood Road!

By the way congrats on Jesuit's great season this year. I came out to watch you play in the rain in Ennis. You guys made history this year!

Looking forward to watching a fellow Jebbie taking off the Blue & Gold, and change into the SMU Red & Blue!

GO MUSTANGS!
