What reason is there for telling recruits while they are on campus that he is looking at another job. He did not do that at Hawaii and he did not do that last year with Maryland.

did he offer it up, or was he just being honest when asked about it? recruits have twitter going on their phones constantly. all i have seen is that Marks (or one of them) told Laken when she asked him about it, that HE asked June. if there are rumors out there that he's talking to ASU, these recruits know it as fast, if not faster than us b/c of twitter/facebook/etc. it would be poor form to lie to them. IMHO.

either way, we'll probably never know.

i'm done with all this nonsense. stay, go, interview, whatever. someone will coach the team, and we'll still all follow the team and cheer for the Mustangs.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I don't think he was either. CoC person is hot.

I think all true blue SMU fans would someday love to have a coach who is passionate about SMU and would not even entertain offers from others, but we should feel good about at least having a coach that others might actually be interested in.

Bottom line is that we are a long ways from being in a position to compete with the big boys and it is painful to realize the high costs of doing so. How long before SMU pays it's coordinators $1mil/yr to keep them? Would certainly help if we had 80,000 paying customers to help fund the costs of playing big time football, but clearly we don't and may never. Maybe we should just focus on hoops...and aim bor being the Duke of Dallas as Doherty once suggested.

Administration and C of C need to decide what is a good investment. All of this makes me realize I'm just a nobody that will follow this team no matter what happens.

At least for me, the fact that he is interviewing with other schools has almost nothing to do with it. It is the fact that he so went so far out of his way to bail on SMU by contacting other schools and setting up meetings at a really inappropriate time.

That coupled with the fact that he never has seemed to buy in to SMU, never wears red/blue, keeps up the hawaii BS like it's his job, and seems like he's only half committed to this thing.

Mitch said it on some thread..."June is the Perry Como of college football." There is no one more laid back than him. He is what he is. Never up; never down. It's that "hang loose" mentality of the Islands. Folks we knew exactly what we were getting. He came here because he wasn't getting what he wanted in way of facilities, asst. coaches pay, etc. That's JJ. So don't act suprised when he uses the same tactics to get leverage on issues he thinks are essential, i.e, IPF, "football friendly" majors, asst. coaches salaries, changes in "losing culture," etc.

I am agnostic on JJ. If he stays fine, we could worse. If he leaves, I faith that things will work out. Remember, we spent 20+ years in the wilderness; the Israelites were in the wilderness for forty. Just keep perspective folks.

I'll take JJ's half commitment and three consecutive winning seasons over what we suffered through for the previous 20-whatever years.

Everybody wants to burn the house down, well what are you going to build in its place?

Yeah, June's a quirky guy. Guess what? It took a quirky guy to come here. Nobody wanted this job four years ago; it was a wasteland. He was the ONLY guy out there with the name recognition to effect change in this school's administration that was actually WILLING to come here in the first place. The lack of appreciation for what JJ has done here is staggering to me. I don't give a [deleted] if he interviews for every job that comes open, for what he's done for this program, we can't [deleted]. We're not Alabama. We're not Ohio State. This isn't a destination job, despite what some of you seem to think. Yeah, I think SMU is awesome and I loved it. But to outsiders it's a small school with pathetic fan support in a nice city where you can recruit well and then it's a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Sorry for the reality shot.

I think more appropriately is, "don't let Peruna drop kick you in the [deleted] on your way out of Ford"

1. If there is an issue with the higher ups, JJ will use leaving as a bargaining chip to get what he wants. It's like this, "either give me what I want or I will look elsewhere for a job". He did that for so many years at Hawaii, the administrors failed to take him serious, until some school with the $$$ came around.

2. JJ likes to shop his name around to make news. He wants his name to be mentioned with all the other good coaches. It helps his image and recruiting.

3. JJ KNOWS his offense won't work against the "big boys" of those AQ conferences. His track record has already proven that. The Georgia sugar bowl opened his eyes in regards to that. If he leaves, it would be to an AQ school in a tuff conference.

The bottom line here is: Expect JJ to remain at SMU for many years to come.

Are you saying that JJ would not have taken the ASU job if the ASU alums had not stopped them from offering?

Not true. Jones was gone...he is still the "leader in the club-house." Internal discussions have postponed any announcement. By the way, I don't see Klemm staying with Jones (whether Jones stays at SMU or goes to ASU. I still feel like he's gone...IF, ASU takes him.

I read the post stating that jj wants his name out there w/other coaches and can see him being that arrogant. Yes, he was the man we needed at the time & would hate to loose recruits but I also want our coach to be dedicated to our team & school. I really felt like he did a p-poor job of coaching this season.....didn't feel like he cared about the outcome of the game.

But if, when, he leaves I hope we pay for the BEST coach out there. He needs to be a proven winner and recruits will come.
