How many head coaching jobs are open now?
Anyone have a link? I've never seen it like this before, this is nuts.
If you can't get to a bowl nowadays with 1/2 the NCAA, you have problems.

Re: How many head coaching jobs are open now?
12 openings at the moment at the bowl subdivision level. 8 coaches have been hired. So, to date, at least 20 schools will have new coaches in 2012.
When I was doing the blog thing, I researched average number of changes per year. The average has steadily risen; we are now averaging almost 20 (19.45) coaching changes per year. It used to be an every-other-year cycle saw major changes (at least 18), but we have had 20+ changes now for the 4th straight year and 5 out of 6 years.
2011 had 24 new coaches.
2010 had 23.
2009 had 22.
2008, when June started had just 18 new coaches.
2007 saw 24 new coaches.
2006 had just 11 new coaches.
2005 had 23 new coaches.
2004 had 13 new coaches.
2003 had 18 new coaches.
2002 had 13, including Phil Bennett at SMU
2001 had 25 new coaches, including Gary Patterson.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Why is Patterson not even mentioned anywhere?

I think we are likely to come close to 25 mark and may exceed it. It sure seems like a lot of the schools will be targeting existing coaches-A&M, Arizona State, UCLA, UNC, Penn State, Illinois, Kansas could all poach coaches from other schools.

Nice work Dooby. The trend is increasing as schools no longer believe in "the 5 year plan." Better win and do it early. Also, don't get caught cheating, never lie to the NCAA, keep your players from selling jerseys for tats, keep half time leads (not even going the Penn St route), don't lose 50-0 to the other Methodists on national TV, and don't coach in Arizona.

I also think there are a couple of coaches that would have been let go a year earlier on this year and last year's lists, but for the economy and the cost of the buyout.

Great point. Think the folks in Lubbock wish the economy was better?

Most schools still believe in "the 5 year plan." The faculty is communist at every one of them.

How many head coaching jobs are open now?
More every day, it seems. If this would have happened in 2007, would we have JJ?
