screw football bring baseball backTexas is so ripe with baseball talent SMU would be a force in the baseball arena..... screw football put all the money back into baseball and we will be national champs in five years...... college football is all about the money and smu will never be anything unless they were in the big 12.... screw football bring baseball back
In the heart of football country, in the glare of "Friday Night Lights", you would believe baseball is a bigger draw?
What, then? Join "MWC", & play baseball without a FB program? Great, we would travel across the country & let CalState-Fullerton kick our BB [deleted]??? Or, do you propose that we go Independent & become the N Dame of baseball? Hmmmm- whatever you're smokin, pass it around, brother.
Hey we could do baseball. All we need is about $200 Million for a stadium and for sufficient baseball and field hockey and softball scholarships (because for Title IX reasons we'd have to add field hockey and softball if we add baseball. Hmm, better make that $300 Million. Yeah, that should do it. Get the picture. CUSA will probably have one of the toughest baseball conferences in the Country with ECU, Rice, UH, USM, Marshall and Tulane.
Yeah...that's what we need...let's trade one sport that we suck in for another sport that we'd suck in!
Let's drop the one sport that we have some history of greatness in (albeit a history that is slowly fading) to bring on another that we'd be light-years behind others in recruiting, interest and history. Let's drop THE official sport of Texas where winning teams pack their stadiums with 35,000-91,000 (if you're LSU) fans for a boring-@$$ sport that yields less than 10,000 spectators ON A GOOD DAY. I know this post was sort of a joke and was meant to inflame, and that this has little chance of happening, but I just wanted to respond to this ridiculous idea. Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Are we still gonna play our home games at Revechon Park or are we going to build an on campus solution? Also, the only way we can bring baseball back is to add a women's softball team. Let's hear it for Title IX.

look at the major texas college teams, UT, A&M, Rice, TT, UH, Baylor, TCU all have teams that are nationally ranked and make it into the post season in college baseball. You would be crazy to not want to come play baseball in a major city, look at rice and the number of kids they get just from houston.
Re: screw football bring baseball back
You are aware that Texas is ripe with FOOTBALL talent as well, and we still manage to suck at that? The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re:...and how few people attend Rice games, including their students. When Houston fans can go see the Astros instead of the Owls, guess who they're gonna pick? When Rice won the national championship, it was barely a blip on the radar screen of the true sports fans in Houston. Most of 'em wouldn't have even known unless it hadn't appeared on the front page of the Houston Chronicle. ![]()
I heard a familiar bell go off in my head and did a little search. It seems that our old buddy Sir Trolls A Lot, recently kicked off the board, began his original rantings with the "bring back baseball" mantra. Me thinks that Sir trolls has returned under a different guise. Please Sir Troll just go away.
I said the same thing under the topic of "Good News Coming...perhaps as early as Monday" topic.

Yes, but MrMustang1965 seems to be just a bit paranoid about Sir Trolls, seeing him behind the guise of Stampede. We just need to give Sir Trolls his own forum to post in. Then if we want to play his games we can.
As for baseball, SMU always treated the baseball team as a 2nd class citizen. No on campus facilities, players having to be recruited from other sports to fill out the roster, and very poor funding of the program. I got to write a thesis on this in my History of SMU class back in the '90. I also knew Steve Adair, who was the last basbeball coach at SMU as well. I also used to work for him during the summers at his basbeball school and he taught me to really hit. You got to hear really great stories from him. I learned the other day that he had passed away a few years ago. At the time I thought that the last link to SMU baseball was now gone and from the research I did when I was in school and the pathetic job being done by our current administration and AD, there will never be college baseball played at SMU.
