Air Force's Calhoun interviews for A&M job

Post by ponyfan08 »

COLLEGE STATION - Add another name to the Texas A&M coaching candidacy: Air Force's Troy Calhoun, who interviewed with A&M athletic director Bill Byrne on Tuesday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Signs still point toward the Aggies eventually tabbing the presumed leading candidate all along, however, Houston's Kevin Sumlin, who guided the Cougars to a 12-1 season so far. Sumlin, Southern Mississippi coach Larry Fedora, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and Calhoun are believed to have interviewed with Byrne over the past two days in New York City, where National Football Foundation activities are taking place.

Multiple A&M insiders have said they hope to have the process wrapped up by week's end, and one said an announcement could come as soon as Wednesday. A&M president R. Bowen Loftin fired Mike Sherman last Thursday, following a 25-25 record over four seasons.

The 6-6 Aggies will take on 6-6 Northwestern in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas on New Year's Eve at Reliant Stadium. Calhoun has led the Falcons (7-5) to five consecutive bowls, but isn't expected to land the A&M gig, despite the interview. Sumlin is a former A&M offensive coordinator under R.C. Slocum in 2002.

That journalist needs to take a grammar class. The quoted "sentence" hurts my head.

How about this as rewrite:

However, signs still point toward the Aggies eventually tabbing Houston's Kevin Sumlin, who has thus far guided the Cougars to a 12-1 season and has been the presumed leading candidate all along.

interesting...turned down Tennessee two years ago. I feel like a broken record saying that. I think literally everyone in the coaching world said no to that job before they hired Dooley

they fired a coach who won a national championship and finished top 15 in 11 of 17 years.
would you want to work for someone with those expectations?

For a couple million bucks a year, I'd consider it.

But yeah, that was ridiculous. Fulmer was Tennessee to the core, too. He'd been there for like 30 straight years or something.

kbohls
A Big 12 school official told me Texas A&M's exit fee is $22 million; Aggies dispute that amount.

That sounds right. They will only pay half though.
Can't let NU and CU leave for half and not A&M and Mizzou.
