Seriously Kate....
"While Jones has revived SMU's program to the point where it has gone to lower-tier bowls for three straight seasons, Jones has clashed with the administration in the past on admissions policies. He also expressed disappointment with small attendance that turned out for the regular-season finale against Rice."
You know we are stuck in CUSA that has absolute no top tier bowls. We are also going to the Big East, which has much better bowls. I wish you went into more depth how crazy the faculty is not the administration. Also the attendance was low because it was on freaking Thanksgiving week. JJ should of known what was going to happen when people called the navy game the last home game. Because we are a private school all the students go back home out of state for Thanksgiving. Also we are a small school that continuously gets blocked by your Bevo Corp and media outlets so Dallas (who we rely on to be at the games) know that we exist. It sure would be nice if you guys could throw in a couple articles over the shorthorns and other crappy Big 12 schools. Also please leave TCU news to Ft. Worth, thats their team... Dallas apparently considers everyone their team.
Also going to add, I hate that all of the material about SMU is premium content, but all the Big 12 crap is open for everyone to see... what is up with that... if anything it should be the other way around, hence why Im not spending a penny to Bevo Corp.

Re: Seriously Kate....
Agree w/ some of your points.
BE tie-ins arent much better though, besides BCS AQ (obviously)
2010-2013:
#1 Bowl Championship Series. The Big East Champion receives an automatic bid to one of the BCS Bowls with an At-Large bid. 2011-2012-Orange, 2012-2013-Sugar, 2013-2014-Fiesta, 2014-2015 Orange
#2 The Champs Sports Bowl receives the second pick of the Big East teams, after the BCS participant is determined.
#3 The Belk Bowl receives the third selection of the Big East teams.
#4 The New Era Pinstripe Bowl receives the fourth selection of the Big East teams.
#5 BBVA Compass Bowl / AutoZone Liberty Bowl . The #5 selection from the Big East will face either the #8 or 9 team (shared pick) from the SEC in the BBVA Compass Bowl or the C-USA champion in the Liberty Bowl.
#6 The Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl receives the sixth Big East selection.

Re: Seriously Kate....
JJ knew the attendance sucked before he got here. Thats why he supposedly wanted the job.. to resurrect the program (now i see it was all about $). He knew it would take years of winning and fielding exciting teams to get back the 20+ years of fans we lost. Also it was an 11 am game against Rice, with a cold front blowing in, on Thanksgiving Break, with a terribly boring offense when we were 6-5 and going to a low tier bowl regardless.
If we went 10-2 3 years in a row with a qb throwing 5000 yards a season we would be bringing in a lot of fans, and that is what he came here to do. Why is he acting like such a whiny [deleted] now? We got blown out 4 times this year, 3 of those against teams we have similar talent to. Start winning big and consistently like you claim your system is capable of doing and people will show up. I had never seen SMU fans travel like they did to our opener at A&M and cheer that loud this year.
How many fans did Hawaii draw in the mid to late 90's when they were going 0-12? Also Hawaii has several times as many alumni and student and is the only sports attraction in that state. We compete with several pro teams in just our city, not to mention 10 (or however many) other D1 teams in this state who's alums live in Dallas and dont cheer for us.
Quit [deleted] about attendance. you came here to get SMU relevant again. (supposedly) so start winning and marketing what SMU football has to offer and get fans interested again.Because unless you are a die hard fan, this team has been boring to watch. It is your job to make it interesting. And maybe try to promote us a little while you are at it instead of a random monotone interview here and there where all you talk about is how a player reminds you of an ex NFL player and that we had guys open but didnt get the ball to them and will see that when we watch film.
Are season ticket sales not up? Havent we been slowly raising attendance? The boulevard seems more crowded than ever to me, so maybe once we have a team worth watching to the casual fan they will start coming in.
Sorry I am fvcked up , and just annoyed that he would gripe about attendance when he was hired to fix it by winning with his "exciting offense" and knew how hard it would be to change the mindset.
I have no problem with giving him 6-8 years to get things turned around, but he needs to win consistently (not being .500 against FBS teams, with most of those wins coming against the bottom 10 of FBS) if he expects to raise attendance numbers. If he has a few seasons like Houston or USM's this year , wins a conference championship or two and still is drawing 12 k for thanksgiving weekend games then I could see why he would complain.
As I always say, I was a JJ fan before he came to SMU and still am. I think he is doing great at this point . He started with a bottom 5 program and had us just outside the top 25 in year 4. But he knows he needs to win more games, and be more competitive in the games we lose for several years before we get more fans in the stands.

I completely agree. It sad when someone is paid 2 million and he just though it was to get us to a bowl game. Im sure any average coach can get a 7-5 season in CUSA, the fact is we paid kind of for progressively racking up wins, getting a championship win, and also the marketing. I mean that is worth 2 million if you actually sum it all up. The thing is hes doing a fourth. The rest of it he defers it to other people. He got all upset with the restrictions our school imposes... yeah we kind of hope you would come in and negotiate with the hostile faculty and admin. Like you said 20+ years of death is not going to be fixed going to 3 low tier bowls, heck even if SMU got to go to a BCS bowl one year, we still wouldnt fill the ford for the next season. Its going to take going to bowl games and beating BCS teams, and having a record greater than 8-4 (especially in CUSA).

What we have here is an Entitlements Issue.... Free Loaders, like Mitch the [deleted]:
JJ comes in good faith knowing he must win. Considering the past he has been winning. The Teams have elevated themselves from losers to winners. The Team won the biggest couple of games in a decade. The school and fans said that's nice but did not care enough to show up and do their part. The Team player wrote a letter of disgust reflecting the teams frustration. The Team then lost their fight and a couple games. The fans are then disgusted with the Team for not doing what the COC, JJ and the Team is paying for. The school and fans want the fruit of the Circle of Champions, JJ and the Team without Investment.
I don't think JJ would be interested in leaving SMU if he still felt it possible to influence the fans enough for them to support the team enough to show up for the games before the National Championship game is scheduled.
I think the Team would have won a couple more games this year if the Free Loaders went to the game and actually Cheered them on to Victory and expressed Gratitude.

so the far majority of people on this board (Mitch included) contribute $ to the Mustang Club, buy season tickets, attend home and away games, and some throw thousands at June's foundation. Where is your 'commitment' level, such that you are in a position to call others 'free loaders?'
I remember in 2008 June and Reinebold declare that they had Dallas "figured out" and "when this thing gets going...look out" etc. Well, didnt happen. The last time money was spent on a sustained (i.e. season long) marketing pain was June's first year, to the tune of about a million.
