Great News coming ...perhaps as early as MondayModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower as long and as worthless as this thread has been, I think the least we can do is make it run longer than the one our UNT friend single handedly kept alive for days. I'm surprised he hasn't weighed in on this one. Of course, the mere mention of UNT will have him posting soon. Methinks he must monitor everything said on this board. At least our "purple menace" friends, as my deceased buddy Old Mustang called them, seem to have moved on to other more pressing matters.
There you have it!!! It was worth the wait!!!
Coach Bennett's contract is extended ....and, please do not try and tell me it was not GREAT news for all. Phil is a good coach, a man's man, is growing as a head coach and SMU will grow with him. This foresight will help SMU and our coaches in recruiting. SMU...2nd to None
Thank God the "purple menace" isnt reading our board anymore, CP, because if they were they'd be LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF AT US!!!!!!
I've seen all kinds of stupidity before, but this one just defies description. totally unrelated to this debacle, CP I hope your wife is feeling better. I never heard the exact extent of her injuries, but I hope she is healing with all due speed. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
Maybe certain posters can have sunshine icons attached to their names to better identify themselves. If so Stampede deserves two.
An administrative change to make us more competitive is great news. Commitments from star athletes is good news. Extending Bennett is simply news. The verdict is still out on him; while he is a good recruiter, his game day coaching skills are questionable…..very questionable if you were to ask Ken Hatfield or Paul Johnson.
A commitment to a coach is GREAT news at this point in time. Telling a coach you are going to give him a chance to turn around the worst program in college football is extremely respectable. If needed, the next coaching prospect will take notice of this committment to a coach. Anyone want to coach at Notre Dame knowing you must come in and win 10 games in your first 3 years to stay (I know this is an exageration so don't comment on it)?
Jon: Thanks for asking. She has non-displaced distal tib/fib fractures and a nasty collar bone fracture as well. Too early to tell about anything else, but appears she will heal. Now, back to the Purple Menace...I'm sure they are concerned right now whether Patterson is going to be able to sustain what Sullivan/Franchione built.
Charleston Pony - I also want to say (should have posted this days ago) that I wish a speedy and complete recovery for your wife.

...you have got to take Stampede's SUNSHINE with a grain of salt (he IS a good guy, btw)...heck, he's an ex-SMU cheerleader for crying outloud and MORE importantly, he OWNS the Spirit Shops at Ford and Moody...you think it would benefit his BIZ to BASH SMU?? I think not....
I have got to say this is not the news that most would consider matches the level of the hype.
Having said that, it should reassure a number of recruits that the coaching staff that is recruiting them will be here for a while and the the school is not just paying lip service to their support for the staff. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
You are right, Huntinfish. The players are important and we have really great individuals who happen to be football players. They are a good group of young men and parents can be proud of them.
CP, we at the Spirit Shop, wish your wife a speedy recovery and the both of you lots of sunshine during the holidays. Sunshine is all good. Thanks for the kind words, Hixon to Levias. (I liked your old handle, "MM") SMU...2nd to None
Re:
That is probably a little harsh. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
