Applewhite will stay at UT, nobody willingly leaves UT. He will probably takeover Browns position in the future.

not Muschamp.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

With us going to the Big East, we will need a coach who can bring balance in the offense. No way can we throw 40-50 times a game and be successful playin in avalanches up in the Big East. We have an exceptional set of receivers and running backs who can get the job done. On the bright side, SMU will throw good money at whoever the next head coach will be.

-Major Applewhite (Co-OC at Texas)
-Mike Sherman (Former Texas A&M coach)
-Todd Monken (OC at OK State)
-Justin Fuente (Co-OC at TCU)
-Todd Grantham (DC at Georgia)--former Dallas Cowboys ast coach.

MnB - yes, I knew you were military. I was trying to point out that the military instills a level of discipline that most players don't have. That also helps them with their FB.
BTW- my cousin went to Ferris for a couple of years, then army. His father-in-law as the AG of Mich. natl guard. IIRC. his name was Gen'l MacDonald.
Also, thank you for your service to our country- especially on the 70th anniv. of PH.

Here is another thought...
Dave Christensen.

Was OC at Toledo when they were blowing things up offensively, then OC at Missouri when they were really good, and then has managed two winning seasons at freaking Wyoming as a head coach, which is saying something.

Probably not a big enough name for recruiting, but an interesting thought.

No way we get applewhite, and the program isn't strong enough to promote a coordinator. We need someone with HC experience to deal with the politics at SMU. Don't think that the battle with faculty is over...

Red, it didn't help them with football between the 1960's and to about the time the 85 scholarship rule really started shaking things up. The understanding that I have of Southern Methodist University is that it's God and Country first. SMU can not recruit Blue Chip Talent, you can't. but 100 guys that believe in each other can beat all odds. I believe it, I live it, thats how I am.

Don't know General McDonald but I'm sure he was a damn fine man. And your cousin that went to Ferris, well a bulldog and a vet like me I'm sure is a good man also.

You are welcome Ohio State fan, we're all Americans and that's really the only thing that ever matters to me. EVER. I wasn't pointing out my service to be an [deleted], just to say that a guy that's a REAL leader can lead anybody, even your average college player.
Go Slippery Rock!!!

Hell no on Nutt. I saw that man out coached several times this year. I am thinking in no particular order:

-Malzahn
-Butch Davis
-Sonny Dykes
-Monken
-Mangino
-Briles and Petersen are way underpaid

If we were paying $2mil a year to June, then we should use the Big East Payola to add another $1mil to the salary. $3mil a year will buy you some talent and $4mil will buy you whatever you want.

We could slaughter the geldings and fill up Mangino's freezer as a signing bonus.

Won't be Butch Davis. He left UNC at the mercy of the NCAA, due to numerous infractions under his watch.

I've had Christenson's name in the back of my mind because he was a finalist for a prior search. I've never really followed the schools he coaches but he did win 8 games at Wyoming this year. Think his second bowl. Probably a second tier candidate below second tier candidate like Mike Stoops

Not sure of the accuracy as Maize can speak to it but the story was that Bo Schembechler had a conversation with Jim Harbaugh when he took San Diego job.

Bo asked him:

Do you have a fullback? Yes

Do you have a tight end? Yes

Do you have a punter? Yes

Then you'll be just fine.
