Dear Pony Fans, from a Horned Frog

Post by Frognosticator »

You're probably all really pissed right now. You feel betrayed. You feel like "damn, we suck. The coach responsible for our revival is gone after a too short stint". Some of you are saying "F June Jones, and ASU".

I completely understand.

Why? TCU was there in 2000. Francione had left the building, right after swearing that he loved Ft. Worth and TCU was a great place to be. He left for a "big" school. We felt like we'd made no progress at all, and were back to square one.

Guess what? We survived. No, we prospered. You all have seen the results. We won the Rose Bowl 10 years after Fran left us.

And you can too.

You guys have the best recruiting class coming in since the Dickerson days. Nearly all 3 stars, with a 4 thrown in there. You guys compete. Hell, you embarrassed us in Ft. Worth this year. Plus, you're about to join the Big East, which will attract a quality man to the HC position. You're in a rich recruiting area, and having an SMU degree is a ticket to the good life.

I remember reading one of your comments on this board to look west and see what the Frogs did to bring their program back. I'd say you're right on course to do that.

Good luck next year and in the Big East.

Hell, not sure where you are coming from, but this is the happiest day of my life,

I have wanted June gone for over two years and to get the news that we are joining a BCS conference on the same day we get the news that June is leaving and we are off the hook for all that money we would have owed him.

Yes, in the short term, recruiting will take a hit. But SMU needed this to happen to keep moving up. Now we can get a real coach with that money that was being wasted on Mr. Hawaii.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

I don't know enough about him to say. He was a co-OC with Anderson. So who really is responsible? The results speak for themselves. Our offense was pretty damn good this year.

However, I'm a believer in building a program based on defense. A good defense will always keep you in a game. Flashy offenses don't. When facing a tough opponent, a good defense is always better. Look at Mike Leach's record against ranked opponents. It sucks. Yeah, you blow out the little guys, but you never win the championship.

Appreciate the effort but you must have missed every SMU game since they played TCU. And that recruiting class is about to get decimated.

Thanks Frog. I believe the SMU admin. can make a decision from here...compete or give up. I'm hoping they really go for it.

Hey Shadowman, I forgot about you. Figure you'd be a little more prominent on this day. You were ahead of the curve.

Thanks Frog for the kind note. I feel 100% better than the last time we were searching for a coach.

Look at it this way... You guys are in a lot better position that the aggies are. That job is a black hole for coaching careers.

Thanks for the post and I absolutely agree with the comparison b/w SMU and TCU in 2000.

If we make the right hire, things will go great.

I did my job, but over last few weeks, others have picked up my torch and carried it further than I ever could have. True, I hated June from the beginning and always felt he was lazy, stubborn, and not commmitted to SMU, but now that all of that has come true, just not as fun to say any more.
