Did June Jones sabotage the 2011 season?
Let me get a little RSFan -- yep, that's now an adjective -- on you here. I'm not sure I even believe it but it's worth discussing:
1. He pulls Kyle Padron after the first two series in College Station.
2. He talks about the lights being an issue here following the UTEP game.
3. We defeat the three teams we should and then pull off what should be the signature win at TCU.
4. Things are flat but the win over UCF is convincing. Yet a letter appears from nowhere about fan attendence.
5. SMU throws a key interception in the USM game in the fourth quarter. Later a LB is kicked out for whatever reason and then suspended for the Tulsa game.
6. Tulsa was a complete noshow. I didn't see it but people were upset how flat and disinterested this team was --- 5 turnovers?
7. The Navy gameplan is a disaster. We throw to DE in the end zone, don't go for the onside kick when we make it 24-17. Was that a complete tank job?
8. We don't have a plan to address the kicking situation in the preseason.
9. After Houston, the Rice game is filled with 5 turnovers and 4 gaffes in the kicking game.
10. Following the game, June said he's disappointed in the crowd
11. Following the game, June talks about the prospects for 2012 being bleak.
A team that probably could have won 8-9 games wins fewer and plays really poorly and is not well coached and doesn't pay attention to the little things.
Does it add up?

My only question for you: What would possibly be the benefit of him sabotaging the season?

It was all very strange, indeed.

There is no motive for doing so. It would just be shoot himself in the foot.
Just June being June I'd say.

Just June being June I'd say.

Mitch, this thread is just not right. Why would he sabotage the season when he needed a good season keep his value high. See Sumlin and Fedora.

Just poor management of the football team. Hey ASU, this is what you got coming your way. Enjoy!

I wouldn't call it sabotage.
More like, "just not give a d@mn, cuz you're outa here."

He still had to post a winning record to get to another school.

This.
Sabotaging the season only serves to lower his stock. But not giving a **** is different. Thats easy.

The ASU move may have already been a done deal early in the season and totally secret, like his move to SMU. Perhaps he stopped caring, or lost to keep crowd down and use that as his complaint and motive to leave?

June at a Foundation dinner before the season:
"well they need to decide if they're going to be serious about football and support it..and if not let us know" or something to that effect. I almost want to say he concluded that sentence with "and we'll go somewhere else" but I cant remember exactly. Mustve been the wine.

Yeah, but he knew he had a third bowl virtually wrapped up after getting to 5-1, with Rice and Tulane left. That meant a "third straight bowl for previously lowly SMU," which is all he'd need on his resume to get a better job.
He literally felt, I believe, he'd done all we deserved and he wanted the hell out.

And I bet because there was the power struggle between him and Dr. Turner, Turner wasn't going to give in and rather use that chip for the replacement...
