Re: We Will Be Better Off
Thank you EconPony for a very insightful post. I have said this from the day JJ was hired that he could make us better but never get us where we ought to be and want to be, which is at least as good as TCU. Your post confirms what I believed. He is not sound offensively and without a super QB for his system along with super wideouts and a rock hard defense in case the QB has a hang nail he cannot win consistently. He has made us better with some good players on hand that have had a taste of winning and now we have to get lucky and hire a coach who can take us to the next level. Hiring that next coach is a bit of a crap shoot. He has to have a good staff, has to be a good recruiter and has to be a good fit at SMU. If there is any doubt in anyone's mind that that great coaches make all the difference in the world, please take a look at K State and Bill Snyder. You can't win the Kentucky Derby with a mule but if given the choice between great players with a poor coach or a great coach with so so players, I will take the great coach every time. This year's team had some very strong players but the head coach was and is flawed. Good luck to ASU as you will need it unless JJ decides to change his philosophy about offense and field position.

Re: We Will Be Better Off
I'm not sure the issue is the QB with Jones. I was about to research this theory before the ASU stuff went down:
I think his offensive mind may be the problem. Everywhere he's been successful...... hasn't Mouse Davis been there too? I know he brought him in for a year at Hawaii..... did that coincide with Hawaii's run beginning?
I think perhaps Jones can take what Mouse created and use it, but he can't innovate or really adapt it when the conditions change too much. At SMU, the conditions were too different but he didn't have Mouse to come fix the system for him.

I've watched June for years. He's the same to me. I'm not surprised by anything he does or says.
I've met quite a few hs football players. Right now I know 2 very good high school QBs (a Fr and a Sr). They have absolutely no interest in the JJ R&S.
Maybe that's true for basically all the QB prospects around the nation.
In my Phil Steele magazine JJMcD had only a PS# 366, Kyle PS#134, Logan PS #90, BLM PS#122, Justin PS# 109.
Graham Harrell was a PS# 16 and you know how well he played in a better system at TT.

Mouse was with June for 3 seasons of his 9 season stint at Hawaii (2004-2006 as ST and RB coach). June called all the plays. Biggest difference in their philosophies is that Mouse likes to keep the QB under center.

Re: We Will Be Better Off
Let's face it, he never embraced our University and, in fact, [deleted] on it (off the field) when he got the chance. It was all about power plays and getting his way--throw out the baby with the bath water if he thought some change needed to be made. It was almost a little too much to bear, but he was making progress so we all tolerated it. Well, this whole saga shows the true June Jones, and it has long since become too much to bear. GTFO, JJ!
