So If June Stays...

Post by SMU21TCU10 »

And does not leave for the Hawaii Job (which is all I can see him leaving for now unless the CoC tells him to take a hike) does he come back and work harder than ever at SMU? Now that he saw what fans from a BCS team think about him, and realizes that nobody outside of SMU (who is going to the BCS) is going to pay him like we do, give him the leniency we do, and not put a lot of pressure on him like we do, does he really bust @ss here and not shop around in the future? Or will this make him bitter, and he wants out more than ever ?

He is getting 2 mil a year for a job with hardly any pressure on him. He is worshiped for going .500 against FBS teams in a bad conference in year 4. We are working on building an IPF for him like he has demanded. We have lowered academic standards for football players. I am sure they will get the tutoring thing worked out. We are going to a respectable conference. Wtf is the problem here? He shopped around last year too after all his " I am staying at SMU until the task given to me is completed" talk. He obviously has a huge recruiting budget too.

And Why is he so open about shopping around at SMU, such as last year with Maryland? I know he had a BCS game, but didnt he say if news was leaked about him taking the SMU job while at Hawaii he would not come?

Guy must hate HP...

I assumed Maryland was strategy. Always let the powers at be know you have options and you'll listen even if your not going. Then they keep giving into your needs. Kind of like a woman.

Ok but to the first part of my question? Does he come back kissing and busting [deleted]? Or the opposite?

Well he's lost all of his leverage now. So this wasn't a power play. Maybe the football players will have to learn to cross the street after all

Plain and simple- jj can not stay. He has lost the trust and respect of the admin, fans and players. How can he even be close to effective in that environment? The university needs to tell him to take a hike- no buyout- nothing. If he wants to sue us then fine- see ya in court dude. I would say we have very good grounds for doing so, especially if he told SO that he was leaving.

GO PONIES!!!

I was a big Jones fan. I don't understand why he would bail on this job. Like stated before, he had a great situation. In addition, the reason SMU crashed the second part of the year is because he didn't have a person at qb that could run his offense. JJ is probably a wonderful qb for some other system. But, any kind of run and shoot, etc. needs an extremely good passing qb that is also quick on his feet. I understand that. I assume Coach Jones understands that. He's got about three of four young qb's coming - not counting the several now on the team that will be back next year with another year of experience and maturity. That should give him what he needs to prove his system is still a great system. He's loosing an o line, but he's getting higher rated lineman coming in to replace the old ones. He is moving into the BE which could end up better for SMU then the Big12 (if SMU can put together several years of Conference Championships and beat TCU). He should be able now to recruit in Texas with the big boys. Money is flowing in for buildings and such. The sports channels, etc. are just starting to take notice and talk about SMU on a semi regular basis. I just don't understand how he could move over night with so much good going for him. Who knows how far the SMU system could go under the right coach...As an alum and fan, I am hurt and upset. However, whatever happens to Jones, we have to figure out how to get more butts in seats. That has to be addressed and a plan needs to be in place. Pony Up!

This was not a leverage issue because he had accepted the offer and was gone but ASU pulled the offer because their booster made the AD pull it.

We need to keep it up now as that would only hurt our receivers.

Jones wants to see what his offense, and team building could do in the AQ PAC 10...12 or whatever they call it now days if AZ ST is even still in it.

I think he forgot some football like Pfil Bennet. See Washington State :!:

Please Steve Orsini, Negotiate Jones out of here. My only question is do you do it before or after Letter of Intent signing day... I am leaning toward right away, like now.

I know SMU is now more desirable now to future coaches than when Jones was hired. Yes, you will probably lose some commits, but if you move forward now, maybe you can save most of them.

Thank you, June for moving SMU up a level, and getting needed changes implemented to level the playing field... But no thank you, June, to all the other bull [deleted]!!
If we keep him, I bet we still lose recruits because of the apparent instability.
Bite the bullet now, and move on..
Convince JJ it is in SMU and Jones' best interests for Jones to resign, (maybe even throw him a million or two for a no compete for one year), that will allow us to keep some of the valuable assistants that new coach might want to keep. If he stays, the recruiting hangover will cripple SMU football.

Shouldn't this whole fiasco fall under June's famous 3 strike rule. June time to suspend yourself for two games. Let's start with the bowl game. Stay home June.

Steve the Stove - An unused nickname for Orsini since he's never put a coach on the hot seat.
