He has every right to interview. He has no right to use OUR time with recruits (their official visits to SMU) to talk up Arizona State

Per some quotes gathered by the premium sites, he indeed talked to the recruits who were in town on Saturday about Arizona State.

We all explore other opportunities but if my employer caught wind that I had accepted another offer only to have it blow up at the last minute - my career would be over with my employer.

as is JJ. His career is over at SMU. He is done. Let's move him along when the dust settles.

In an ideal world you're 100% correct. However, we don't live in an ideal world. Many kids (not named Printz) commit to a coach and not a school. In a very time sensitive situation (such as the ASU search), there's overlap. Given that he had to multitask through all of this, a reasonable person would expect overlap. It is what it is. Grill him at the luncheon.

If I were in Dallas, I most certainly would grill him at the luncheon.

"Overlap" cannot be tolerated. Jones didn't even have the ASU job offered to him at that time. He had merely interviewed.

In all fairness, he didn't recruit players to ASU. Otherwise we wouldn't have had a Sunday afternoon commit. It started to leak that he might be in the running, and June responded by saying, there's truth to the story (again, he was being honest). The recruits just said "well, I'll follow you".

Hulick asked June about ASU. June said "Sometimes you've gotta take the best opportunity for you."

Translation: ASU is a better opportunity than SMU.

Many many people would argue ASU is a better job. Stable PAC making $35m per year or very unstable Big East making 1/3 of that. There's A LOT to be excited about but we have to translate "potential" into " performance". I believe in SMU and I'm not going to bail on them. If I had $10m I would donate it to SMU and tell June to seek his joy elsewhere. Sometimes you have to recognize you aren't in an ideal situation and you make the best of it. SMU may be in one of those situations.

SMU has the money to buy him out, if that's what the Circle of Champions wants to do. And in the end the CoC wants to do whatever Turner & Orsini explain to them is in our best interest

Of course, that commit tweeted yesterday that he was an ASU commit now...

So a school that doesn't have money for a marketing billboard, moderate raises for assistant coaches, etc. can pay $10m to fire a coach + a buyout for a new coach. Hadn't heard that one before.

You are aware how Jones' salary is paid, correct?

Its a fantasy to actually buy him out to leave or to just release from the contract. After today, if I were June I just resign. If he thought 20k fans were bad, imagine 5k. Dallas is going to look at us with a backstabbing coach. I realize he has the right to, but the way it was presented it looks like we are a joke. Given that we know what his intentions are, we should actively look for a new coach and not give him an extension. I mean the only way he can redeem himself is beat AM, Baylor and TCU next year and go 10 and 2.

I still found it hilarious (and quite proud) when ASU people heard about the 2 million buyout and in general paycheck. They were absolutely shocked. Hopefully at least in Arizona, they realize we mean business.

Also if Steve O gave him permission, makes you wonder if hes looking for places to go....

Maybe he will take the Hawaii job. At least the lei will make sense. The geldings will have to go through the quarantine and clearance process, though.

He didn't just interview, he accepted an offer and had recruits switching schools.

CoxMustangFan wrote:Yes, I am. Unless the CoC wants to pay $10-15m to flush a coach, they're going to roll with the punches (as they probably should). Again, my naive hope is that this whole experience gives June a new appreciation for his current situation. I'm not telling you (or anyone else) how to feel, but in my mind there is no way to turn my back on June without turning my back on those playes.

They are currently on the hook for about $7.5 mil (June's last three years). A buyout would be $3 mil. That would be a savings of $4.5 mil.

We'd probably finance the next coach the same way, so essentially just remove $3 mil from the pot and we're good to go.

No clue where you are getting the $10-15m figure

June handled this poorly. He has said publicly that his next job would be pro. I heard that myself. Asked for raises. Got them. Asked for relaxed admissions. Got them. Asked for extension. Got one. Asked for more tutors. Got them. Asked for ipf. One on the way

We are not a friggin door matt He must not know that. The other shoe will drop. He will know it soon.

Our trustees are some of the most influential and successful business people in the world Guys that eat Leigh stein bergs for lunch. The other shoe will drop.
