A lot of people on here talk about hiring a 3rd party marketing firm. Any ideas on a program similar to ours (private, in a market with other stuff going on, 5000 to 10000 students with a stadium over five times the size of the undergrad student body) that regularly sells out games and what firms do they use?

University of Miami, but I don't know what firm they use.

They actually do have a small marketing and promotions group, but not large at all. They only have 2 more people than SMU.

Miami hasn't sold out their games in years. Ever since they moved the games up north to Joe Robbie (or whatever the Dolphins are calling their stadium this week.)

that's true. 2009 average attendance of 47.5k increased to 52.6k in 2010. They also have 5,000 more total students. We're at about 10k and they're at 15k with all of their grad programs, but that's the closest sized private school in a major market with strong attendance that I could think of.

Northwestern is same size as Miami. Northwestern's attendance in 2009 increased 12k to 36.4k in 2010. Pretty impressive, but I don't know what drove that.

Nick? I just don't know this program.

How about playing teams like Michigan, OSU, Northwestern, Illinois, etc. at home? As you guys know, one or two teams that travel well can boost year over year attendance...

very good point. Would have to look at home teams year over year too.

Two schools and one marketing firm are all we can come up with? If we came up with some good case studies we could take them to Steve O. He seems very receptive to engaging alumni and the rest of the SMU community for help. However, it wouldn't be helpful to tell him we need a private marketing firm and have no real information or ideas.
