Re: Statement from June Jones

Post by DFW HOYA »
"In the past week, multiple schools have contacted me about their vacant head coaching positions. I did not seek them out, but I did listen to these opportunities. I was open and honest with the SMU administration throughout this process and I am very appreciative of their understanding. I am happy with the progress we have made at SMU and am committed to this University. We have accomplished much, but I believe we can do much more. I’m thankful for the opportunity to lead the SMU football program as we return to national prominence and make the monumental move into the BIG EAST Conference. We will now turn our focus to the BBVA Compass Bowl - our third straight bowl berth - and to finalizing an amazing 2012 recruiting class. The future is bright for SMU football."
It reads as someone caught sneaking out of class early.

Needs to hold a press conference instead of hiding a behind a school generated "press release". It would not solve all the problems but from a PR standpoint it would help.

Perhaps that is all that can get done before the Bowl presser but when Orsini said he needed to show a commitment to the school in his own words this does not come close to that.

Not sure if that statement even reached the low level of the bare minimum. It's almost and insulting statement; the statement acts as if everyone is unaware of this thing really went down. At least respect our intelligence.

Yep, it is now clear that he is not only a liar and a scumbag, but also a coward. Can't say I didn't expect that he would do this. That garbage was most likely not even written by him but by his incompetent agent.

I think that statement was written by our marketing department.

Obviously not from him, his ego wouldn't let it.

In deposition today with 14 other really, really smart attorneys. I does some of this area of the law. They all said he breached his contract with us and unless his contract has some unique provisions, fire him and dare him to try and enforce his buyout.

That's exactly what I was saying yesterday (and now today).

He did have to be in Birmingham for the Bowl Q&A, today. He needs to do Press Conference when he returns, but I doubt it will happen.

He could have done a press conference right after his meeting with the team. But, okay, let's wait and see if he takes live questions about this on camera.

My 2 cents:

- Statement does not feel sincere, but I accept it given the circumstances
- I believe SMU administration did know and permitted him to talk to others
- His agent, Leigh, made it worse with his tweet that he should have never shared. What was he thinking? Of course, it was gasoline on the fire for SMU fans and hurt his client's current university/employer.
- Our marriage to JJ is strained, but both parties need to more on.
- SMU needs to get students and fans into the seats at Ford (and Moody, for that matter).
- and, JJ, needs to help engage the entire SMU family, especially students, rather staying in his office or on the phone.
