Dukies have to go to football games in order to get hoops tickets. Not saying i like these tactics, but incentives to the Greek system should be looked at.

Um, unless there is something new, this is totally and categorically not true (except for band members -- got march if you want to play in basketball band.)

I can see what you mean by the June Jones marketing strategy. I mean, we were doing so well with our average 15,000 a year before he came along. And we had all kinds of media attention with our 2-10 and 1-11 seasons.

Sorry, but the only thing we had to sell when he came here was him. And using our traditional stuff wasn't attracting anyone other than the faithful. We are not TU, OSU or Bama so we are going to have to try different things to attract attention. I don’t blame our marketing or feel it was a failure. We are better now than four years ago. We had nothing to sell but a new coach and we sure hadn’t sold tradition prior to his arrival.

We knew if he was successful others would come a courting. They are and they will continue. I am just glad for once we have the hot commodity coach.

don't even try to bring any logical thought to the board right now. we are still in the middle of our emotional outburst and a lot of us are resistant to any change in our lives

Actually when you get right down to it the only difference between this week and the time when we hired JJ from Hawaii is that we kept quiet. If the folks at ASU would kept their mouths shut this probably would have happened.

Other than the fact the Blackhawks fans totally disrespect America and The National Anthem every single night, their game presentation is nice.

It absolutely disgusts me when the way the media fawns over their lack of patriotism.

SMU1523 wrote:When SMU athletics seemed to still be in the business of marketing, they built their entire campaign around one man, June Jones. The "June Cometh, Pony Up" campaign was destined to fail from the start. When you build brand equity around a single individual, you are building your brand on sand, and not a solid foundation. The past four years, SMU's brand equity has been built around June. It was inevitable that one day he would leave, and with him leaving our brand would fall apart. We need to start a new campaign based on our solid tradition. The white helmets were an excellent start and I would credit that to Orsini with the "June Cometh, Pony Up" campaign. We need to start forming a new brand identity based around tradition and SMU. I don't know when June will leave, but when that day comes, our brand must be strong enough nationwide to get past the damage.

Other examples of brand equity built around June that is a brand equity hazard:

-crossbone helmet stickers
-black jerseys
-black SMU apparel in general

And totally agree with you DFFH, Chicago blows.
-red and blue lei's at the bookstore
-liberty and justice
-etc.

Note: On another note, the navy blue helmet and ugly Nike jerseys
we wore under Phil Bennett was one of the worst marketing moves in SMU history, in my opinion. Stay true to tradition. I do understand Coaches bringing in new traditions, but I believe they should be limited and made sure they are helping the brand, and not potentially hurting it!

You have inspired me to go into the bookstore and literally burn all black jersey, leis, and anything else that pertains to JJ. I couldnt agree more that we need to stick with only SMU traditions. Also dont care for blue jerseys, etc. We just saw how fragile our football program is, it doesnt exist, we capitalized all our expenses under the short term asset of JJ. He wants to just pack up and leave, and we get nothing in return other than 3 little bowls. The Hawaii bowl was the only big one because we havent been there, but losing to army unacceptable and most likely to PItt especially with McDermott.

Have you ever been to a game?

They are cheering for America, it's amazing. I am super conservative when it comes to that stuff, but there is no feeling like it. You can truly feel the pride they have for the country during the anthem.
