First off, Jones has made several comments. He even said something to the effect that he would like to coach at SMU until he retires from football coaching. He also said that considering other schools is just (the coaching) business. He also said that he kept in good communication with numerous SMU people. I admit, I was deeply hurt by what he did. However, weighing all of the options, I think forgiving (perhaps not totally forgetting) is the best policy. Actually, I would like to see what he does with a quarterback like Printz passing to Marks. The problem is - if I'm a coach from the University of Texas (for example) and I'm talking to a SMU recruit, I say "How do you know Coach Jones will be at SMU next year?" So, perhaps we work on that contract between SMU and Jones and lock him in a little better. Nonetheless, everything being considered, I think at least for now, SMU is better off with June Jones and staff then w/o them.

After reading the DMN article, all I can think is PR. He was honest with the fact its business. That he was considering his option, and he can say how much he loves SMU and his group in Dallas. I know that if ASU offered everything; he was jumping ship. He doesnt have any roots here, hence the lack of showing of tradition of SMU. If he really wants people to show up, he needs to embrace SMU. He needs to wear the red and blue. He needs to go out and meet students at the flag pole. He needs more than ever to connect with SMU. Having a mediocre 7-5 seasons (with few great wins and terrible losses) doesnt get people to the stadium. I mean shorthorns sucked it up but that was because of their majority of fresh and sophs and dont they have a similar record? The fact is to build a long term program, you need to make people feel attached to this school, program etc. and the other main part is get as often as possible 10-2 + seasons.
