That would not be my route at all. I plan to address it with him privately.

This is what you said earlier:

Pony64 wrote:The respectable thing for June to do is for not only him, but his son to formally apologize to the entire school and alumni.

He and his son formally apologizing to the entire school and alumni is private?

No it's not, but that's what he should do. What I plan to say to him would be private.

I will say that had I done something like this when I was in high school I would have had to answer to my father for it. As a minor my father was the end responsibility. That said, I did not know it had been removed. That could have been done by the kid himself or at his father's directive. Either way, if it was quickly removed, I am definitely in the "let it drop and move on" crowd.

I hear you on that. It's just not easy.

I'm in the "let (him) drop and move on crowd"

If I was there I would ask something about what he plans to do to change the public perception that he doesn't want to be at SMU or seemed concerned with embracing the few fans that have stuck with the program.

I think this is a good question. Forward looking, not rehashing the past but addressess a grievance a lot of people have. Throw in the impact on recruiting of a common perception that he will leave as soon as he can and you have a great question.

Just do that trust building exercise.
Let June fall back from stage level and see how many ponyfans will catch him.

That could be his sign.
I'm ready for better and someone new.

All I can say is grill him on what he has said in the past: sticking around till retirement, knows the challenges of fan attendance, rebuilding a program... then go after the fact that everything he did by doing this ASU thing is the opposite. He doesnt plan to retire, he obviously will throw away games over attendance, and he was about to pick up everything and leave the program to come crashing down.

Unfortunately I can never make it on Mondays, but I really hope people grill him for this because if you just ask silly questions like: are you really going to be here from now on? I can guarantee you that he will say what you want to hear. I have a feeling with his ego though dont expect any apologies. Also if anyone is interested after telling him this stuff, go and ask to agree to change certain things back to our old traditions (since I heard people say that he did this). Also say, well based on you tell us everything is cement with you and SMU how can we trust the fact you arent going to bolt again. etc. There is literally thousands of things you can say to him.

We drive up from Houston for every home game and have for a few years - usually return home on Sundays. I have really been wanting to attend one of these luncheons for a while and it just hasn't happened but in light of current events...just bought my ticket and will be driving up Monday morning. Is it cool to sit anywhere? Is there a protocol? What's the set up for us new guys?

New attendees are required to post a long and detail report on ponyfans.com of all that is said at the luncheon. Look forward to hearing your report.

Has anyone ever asked him about his use of timeouts?

How old is the kid? If he is 18 or older and makes comments like he did, either he or someone should address it. If he is a minor I would agree, hands off.

Apparently he is a Sr which makes him either 17 or 18, so very borderline per your criteria.

and for the record,

that sh!ty little school he referenced is one of only some 60 in the world with an endowment of over $1B, but since he probably can't relate to that, how about this fact.

Only 10 schools have placed more individuals in the NFL Hall of Fame than SMU.

We have more than UT, A&M, OU, Florida, Nebraska, UCLA, Miami, Georgia...heck even ASU or Hawaii

I don't think it should be brought up by SMU or its fans, but I do think JJ should apologize, which I am not holding my breath on.
