Jones was actively looking for a new job, right?

June was not on page 1 either for the record, but I don't recall lead story that day. Both were buried because no DMN readers cared about either one.

What we're unhappy about is how unprofessional he is....how can you say he's professional?

He is A professional i.e., he gets paid to do what he does (coach)

All he's saying now sounds like schools came calling outa the blue and he simply listened. I'd like to know: has he stopped his active search now? Is Ernst & Beaudean still searching for him?

His comments in today's DMN are particularly galling: "I didn't really know how bad it was when I got [to SMU.]"
Right back at you, brah.

How could anyone who wasn't here appreciate how bad the athletics situation was when JJ was hired? You don't share the ugly side of your program when you are trying to sell the guy you want

JJ tried to run away. The question is whether he is strong enough to now REALLY accept the challenge that SMU presents

Pretty surprised you would say that...

It's better now but talk to the guys who came before JJ...we dwelled in that "bottom 10" for years and legitimately belonged there

Once we enter big east, it's best job in that conference day 1

really???

You work for one of the best law firms in the country and could pick you're local, why Dallas?

With the money we spend on coaches, the surrounding area, the little pressure to win (we want to
Love jj because he took us to 3 bowl games in and era where 55 percent of teams do this), the networking ect.

You prob could have went to a lot of top 25 academic schools but you choose smu for a lot of the same reasons coaches think.

It has been well documented that most of the industry regards smu as a sleeping giant. It took 25 years to wake up and we keep hitting the snooze button we were are ready.

If jj doesn't want to be the guy then move on, resign go elsewhere. It amazing you can defend a guy that doesn't like smu, doesn't like rgt, doesn't like Dallas, doesn't want to be here....

So get the heck out, jj isn't the be all end all, if you want to leave...leave don't f around and call others, there are plenty of jobs out there so go..

He doesn't need the money, he can thank smu for that in more ways than 1.

Let's figure out how to keep klemm the recruits and keep moving forward.

On this we can agree; JJ showed his hand and obviously did not want to remain at SMU after this year. Can that change? Can he still be an effective HC at SMU? I will leave it to SO and the C of C to resolve where things go from here.

That is the crux of this to me CP.

He is an old man with a huge ego and a looooong track record of doing things his way. In short, don’t like the odds of him ‘changing’.

That is why I agree with Nick. Plan exit strategy TODAY, but on our terms, not JJs.

If OUR exit strategy requires keeping him for 1 more year, so be it.

The June Jones/ASU story was Page 1, top of the entire page of the Sports Section-Big East announcement was several pages back

June has always mysteriously hinted that there was a specific reason he came to SMU - something he was meant to do, I took it - and that he'd tell us what it was someday.
Surely, it wasn't three 7-5 regular seasons, yet he was leaving.

My understanding it was to get us into a AQ Conference. Done deal.

$2M per year and it sucks????

It is a ridiculous statement that I would expect from a drive-by flamer, not you.
