How We Goin' To Spin This?

Postby Stallion » Sun Dec 12, 2004 11:53 am

There is a very good chance that SMU will not sign a single player rated in the Top 68 IN THE DALLAS-FT. WORTH METROPLEX according to the lists published in the DMN(which relies on Rivals) this Sunday. We are not even under consideration of ANY player in the AREA Top 51. What better evidence that in the eyes of Dallas area recruits SMU simply is not committed to win. We likely will be shut out of the Texas Top 100 too.

Here's how I spin it: Signing Day isn't Dec. 12.

Having said that, I, like you, wish we were in on every player on those lists. But I also know that this recruiting process is a long way from being done. We'll try to steal players from other schools, and JUCOs will affect how this class is viewed.

What is interesting is that if you go to the DMN/Rivals website, there are three or four recruits rated #50 or higher in the local top 100's that have SMU in the mix and a couple of State 100's that have SMU in the mix. Wonder why the difference?

let's try winning more than 3 games in a single season and just watch that interest level climb. SMU has to prove it can win on the field. Any DFW area kid who reads the sports page knows SMU has been a bottom dweller for years and that doesn't exactly have them lining up to play here. Those local guys are also aware of how few people currently support SMU football...they see those 5,000 crowds that come out for Nevada and Tulsa. I give a lot of credit to the local guys who have signed to play at SMU. Now it's up to them to get the program to the point we can play .500 ball. Do that and start attracting 20,000 fans and those recruiting lists will look a whole lot different in future years.

No. 52 DMN Area recruit Josh Burris committed to Tulsa-reportedly had an offer from SMU-at least prior to the JC commitment at his position. Not sure if its any great loss though because he is reported as 5-11 to 5-10 and ran a 4.64 at Nike camp-too slow and too small for safety or really any secondary position anyway-if accurate.

Good stuff, Stallion - thanks.
Based on the reports, I agree that Randall Goode sounds better. Stronger (I assume), faster, and a little more mature.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

Is it me or does Tulsa and Tulane seem to be putting together nice classes.
