Spin or reality, SMU coach June Jones said today that his near departure last week ended up helping situation at SMU

Jones and SMU prez Gerald Turner had productive talks at breakfast last Thursday. Jones says SMU will be last job

Apparently his meeting with about 300 fans at luncheon today went OK. He got a standing ovation, along with some hard questions and skeptics

Agreed, polite clapping from another good chunk and then some just sitting quietly.

I can't believe what I just listened to at lunch. Now, as a general split or estimate, if you were over 65 then you probably lapped the whole mess up with a spoon. If you were in your 30/40/50's, you likely used some reasonable degree of thought and had at least a few instances of 'did I here that right.' The preceeding based upon the handclapping and bluffs at standing for an ovation.

Maybe my hearing or interpretation is off, but I heard our HC all but call us a village of idiots. Bad Leigh Steinburg. I didn't get offered. I don't know if I would have accepted or not. Social media is very bad. Internet is not to be believed at all times. Somebody got Leigh's access to whatever device it was and put things out that Leigh didn't even say. I love SMU now even more (than I did last weekend). Things are gonna be even better. Let's hold hands and thank Steve O, while singing I love you, you love me, we're a happy family...

And for dessert, let me show you what I do when one of mine gets a little too big in the head. I don't need social media, I just have my assistant create a graphic that I very carefully put together. Forget that the time frame used renders the whole thing irrelevant, I know that you will buy the whole enchilada because, well because, I'm June and I'm here (again) to lead you out of the wilderness of C-USA and into the BE, where we will win championships...not middle of the pack finishes like that overly difficult C-USA. Ahh, things are all good now. Bring on Pittsburgh.

I can't believe anyone went. They should have protested outside that they wanted AK as their next HC and run JJ out of the building.

Coaches use agents for plausible deniability all the time. That's why they use agents. "Oh, I never had a discussion with ASU." Interpretation - "my agent had extensive negotiations." "I'm not sure I would have taken the job". Interpretation. "I hadn't seen a final contract, yet, but what I heard I liked". In other words, agents provide a perfect fall guy for the coach to deny any deal with any school. Jones problem is that his agent has a bigger ego than Jones and wouldn't fall on his sword and disembowel himself as most agents do. After all the old joke what's the difference between a prostitute and a sport's agent? There are some things a prostitute won't do.

He said he never got an offer during the 1on1 part, but during the Q&A someone asked a question about the contract. He admitted then a contract was being worked up w/ASU but he doesn't get a call with the 'offer' until the contract is done being written. So he kind of blew his own plausible deniability with that.

And yes, about half the people in the room stood up and applauded for him when he took the stage, but there was definitely half the room seated quietly.

Then I got my daughters chalk and chalkboard out and we went over what an egomaniac JJ is...

Then we determined that JJs Diorama was a defn. sign he was showing us everything would be ok with out the guy who was doing work for the other 4 guys on staff....

Pike flag football team circa 2006-2008 was amaze.
