I know the first and second rule of MC Luncheon is that you don't talk about what is said during the MC Luncheon but considering that he has refused to submit himself to media scrutiny throughout all of this, I feel absolutely no guilt relaying my impressions of what was said. If the questions asked there were all he has to answer to, that is about as gentle of a landing as could ever be hoped for.

Just looking back and comparing Hawaii to SMU and SMU to ASU for JJ. Didn't he say that if any of the news leaked before the bowl game that he would not consider SMU? He would be at Hawaii or somewhere else. Any chance this is what happened with the ASU situation?

This is not what happened. He was going to go and then ASU pulled the offer. JJ never removed his name from consideration and Steinberg's ranting afterwards proves that

that was addressed. Coach seemed very upset that it all became public and actually APOLOGIZED for marring an otherwise great day for SMU. Could very well have been a sticking point because he is well aware of how that damages reputations.

Wait, did he REALLY claim that someone stole Steinberg's computer and made fake posts? Really?

What idiots actually buy that? Steinberg, Arizona legit newspaper media, EVERYONE agrees he was offerend and accepted.

I thought this was overblown in all aspects except how it was bungled in the media (look for another job is expected and no big deal) but if we are going to be talked to like idiots I can't stand it.

Does anyone have the link to the Steinberg radio interview regarding his negotiating with ASU for June?

Right or wrong, whether we're smart or stupid, June's actions basically amount to taking a small, beatendown fan base, which is wary of his intentions and methods, and kicking it in the nuts, and then telling them it was someone else that did it.

How's that going to affect ticket sales and enthusiasm moving forward?

For better or worse, this is a collection of brain damages people who pledge allegiance to SMU's athletics...or as some might call us, the hard core fans. Over the past 10 days, for better or worse, the general sentiment has been that among the most loyal of fans, their perception of the man running the show has soured.

Address an ASU, Texas Tech, Auburn, Ok State, etc. audience like he did today and he better hope for a back door 2' away and police cruiser with the door open. Meh, maybe not, that would assume they could figure out how badly they just got insulted.

I am not sure you can extrapolate from the most hardcore fans to attendance for next year. Sadly there are not too many of us obssessed enough to have followed the ins and outs of this whole thing. A lot of people just picked up "June might leave, no he is staying" and were very happy to hear that.

Also, judging by the attendance today maybe this is the best way to get people interested.

Many if not all of his answers were weak. That includes his confusion of the internet, denial of an offer and/or acceptance, no knowledge of cross recruiting and taking his guys off the recruiting trail. He was playing semantics and wouldn't answer the nature of some direct questions.

His explanation that loyalty is a fault of his was not needed and made him look foolish.

The Klemm overhead was really laughable and low rent. Someone needs to give him a copy of PowerPoint for Christmas. There was some eye rolling when he was presenting.

Someone asked about the mid-season collapse, but he never answered the entire question and the reason for the losing streak.

My table was made up of alums from the 70's to 90's didn't buy his very weak, and many would say insulting, answers.

MC Luncheon really needs an infusion of new/young fans. That room is full of fans that have supported SMU unquestionably through thick and thin (and bless 'em) but June looks at them like they are his piggy bank. He could have grabbed his crotch, stuck out his tongue and flipped us all the bird and he'd still have half the room nodding and giving him awkward applause.
