Has anyone seen a 2005 schedule?

Postby UConn/SMU » Wed Dec 15, 2004 5:11 pm

Or at least know who the opponents will be? I've seen/heard nothing.

2005 OOC games:

Sept. 10 vs. TCU
Sept. 17 @TAMU
Sept. 24 vs. Baylor

I don't know if the dates for C-USA games have been set yet, but I believe our opponents are:
@UAB
@Marshall
@Houston
@Tulsa

vs. ECU
vs. Tulane
vs. UTEP
vs. Rice

Thanks, guys.

Not a bad schedule. I've never seen Baylor or ECU in person. The other four home opponents have been here recently.

Gotta beat baylor! I guess you missed the end of the SWC days. As for ecu, they've gone from an upswing to the crapper, but do have some good kids. They are determined to swing back up, much like SMU. They fired the HC, and brought in Skip Holtz. He is busy lighting fires under folks' butts. I look forward to SMU coming to NC. Both Winston-Salem and Greenville are close to home.

Go Ponies!

No Cal: when that ECU date in 2006 was announced, there were at least 4-5 on this board who immediately declared "road trip". We will have to coordinate on that one

Skip Holtz was the head coach at UConn until about 1998. His teams were high scoring and defensively-challenged. I don't know if that is any indication of what he'll do at ECU.

5 chances to win in 2005

Postby Sam I Am » Thu Dec 23, 2004 9:54 am

I see only five games where SMU has a chance to win in 2005: ECU, Tulane, Tulsa, UH, and Rice. I predict another three win season,

First, the Mustangs will (must) win at least five games in 2005. This is a critical objective. A winning season is necessary to confirm progress and ensure continuity.

Second, the Northwestern connection is outstanding. Evanston is a great college/urban city and Ryan Field is a great place to watch a game. Lots of Chicago Alumni as well. Turner spoke at the Chicago Chapter last winter. I hope NU remains on schedule. But, for Bus, they have lots of big uglies.

Attendance for Northwestern depends on the timing. In September, we'll get 20,000-25,000. In November, we'll get 10,000-15,000.

I'm guessing that 5 wins is a minimum for Coach Bennett. My understanding is that his "extension" is heavily performance laden. Another 3 win season would probably bring about a change in the coaching staff.

Getting to 5-6 or 6-5 would bring much relief to the program and the university. If we could go 4-4 in the conference and 1-2 outside the conference, I think most SMU fans would be *very* happy.

The expectations will increase once that goal is attained. But for now, .500 looks damn good.
