Wes Hopkins actually intercepted the final pass in the end zone and was on the ground with the ball when a BYU player jumped on him and claimed to have possession of the ball and the rest is history, according to Tom Harrity, a band member on the sidelines who saw first-hand what happened.

jtstang.....was hoping one of you guys who spend every waking minute "searching for all things SMU" could quickly tell me...so, bite me. Long Live Bill Gates.
Re:
Yeah, and in the time it took you to look here 10 times to see if there was a response, you coulda answered your own question by looking it up--so bite me back.
Re:I know that ESPN Classic is *not* showing the SMU v BYU Holiday Bowl game. ![]()
JTStang....what's all the aggression about? Holiday stress? You say I'm whining, I'm just looking for info....job got ya down? Wife? Still driving that Cougar? What? Long Live MM1965!
Re:
No aggression--you got on people for going off on a tangent instead of answering your question, so I just pointed out the info you seek is available on the web. You said bite me, so I said bite me back. Everything's fine, Cougar's running great, happy hannukah, etc.
holiday bowl-bluebonnet bowlHey Mustang '65. The SMU-Oklahoma game was televised 12/31/68. I was eight years old and it was the first SMU game I ever saw.
Great game. I have never seen it replayed on ESPN Classic though. I think the original broadcast was done by the same people who used to do the SWC basketball games on Saturday afternoons in the 70's. I think the network was TVS? I was on the sidelines at the end of the game at the holiday bowl my junior year at SMU. We went down to the field with about 3 minutes left. I didn't see it from where I was standing, but several people said that one of the passes caught in the end zone by BYU near the end bounced before being caught. As has been said many times on this board, a disastrous ending.
Thanks Carolina, I don't think I've ever seen a replay either while I was watching on TV, or later. I was sure that I saw the ball bounce on the next to last (I think) BYU TD. Seems like the TV announcers just kind of ignored it, or missed it like the refs.
CaolinaStang...who are you? I was on the field at the holiday bowl as well, I remember only about 6 kids signed up for the "student trip", so we got to go with the alums...Del Coronado, BIG Christmes tree, wild couple of days...stood on the bench wearing an SMU overcoat warm up jacket to "lay low"...Long Liove Mike Randle.
