Re: Klemm Gone
Klemm showed SMU is a school you can get good players to come to and he was getting guys to come all the way from Cali. Hopefully his success will spark the interest of solid recruiters with more local connections to see SMU as a solid job and not a dead end, although half our students are from out of state so nothing wrong if half the players are too. We may still be a stepping stone, but we are a stepping stone for great coaches on their way up, not failed ones falling down.
Jone cited academic and curriculum problems discussed in his recent meeting with RGT and SO. Any clue what those were about? SO seems steadfast in NY that there were no present problems. Do we still have problems with recruiting (outside of June being mad SMU is not a "dumb" school).

Re: Klemm Gone
There are no significant admission problems at SMU. That is the message that needs to be publically pronounced
There may be curriculum and tutoring type issues and there is a recent June Jones quote stating that the admission issues have been dealt with.

I just hope we don't get some fired coach to replace Klemm. Since every says that we can just go out and get a top recruiter. Usually top recruiters are employed.

Re: Klemm Gone
Here's one recent quote in Q and A with Kate-note he doesn't mention admission issues and that all areas of concern are being dealt with.
What kind of discussions have you had with AD Steve Orsini and President Gerald Turner?
"I had breakfast with Dr. Turner Friday morning, Steve while he was coming back from New York. Steve and I have had some really positive conversations. Basically, information that is stuff we have to share with each other. There's no question about Steve's commitment is to the program and to the school, That's what my commitment is. With Dr. Turner, everything was basically addressing some of the things we had talked about before, last May and June, and confirmed that we're moving forward in the direction we need to go. I feel we're closer to addressing all the things that have to be addressed to be successful here. That's classroom stuff, curriculum stuff, marketing stuff. That's putting the kids first. I think everyone's committed to doing that."

I guess he is saying what he has to say to stay here for 3 more years or however long his contract is. Now that his job offers are gone I think June will say whatever is necessary to keep the paychecks coming IMO.

Re: Klemm Gone
BTW as someone who follows recruiting at every single major school in Texas I can assure you that there often repeated curriculum and academic issues at just about every one of those schools because you can not have separate rules for just athletes and I'm speaking specifically of UT, A&M, Baylor, TCU, Rice. eg. Kid wants to get into the Business School then he has to meet certain standards that major field of study requires. NCAA rules don't permit the Business School to have two separate rules for student/athletes and the general student body. Not sure if I really am aware of any at Tech or Houston that I've heard about. This is essentially what Steve Orsini said just days ago when he said every school has curriculum and academic issues and that is true. There is not one set of NCAA rules there are 120 set of NCAA rules because NCAA rules have to blended into each institutions rules for the general student body. The reason he needs tutoring and academic changes is because June Jones has recruited an entirely different profile of recruits than ALL of his predecessors which btw I agree with.

I figured they just needed more tutors or more classes with an emphasis on final papers/project vs exams. What does June want, the 4-year perfect attendance major? Should be looking toward Stanford and not ASU for ideas.

I'm guessing Jone will say none of this happened.

Crap- woke up early and signed on to pf. Then I read that AK is gone- whole day shot to hell as well as positive attitude. The worse case scenario has just happened.
What jj does in the near future is extremely important. He needs a 'shock and awe' hire for recruiting or needs to go away. We can not afford 2-3 years of poor recruiting. JMHO.
GO PONIES!!!

Someone had mentioned it in another thread earlier, but I really think Colt Brennan would be a good guy to bring on the staff. He wouldn't replace Klemm obviously, but having him on the staff in some capacity would a) add youth to the coaching staff and b) create instant name recognition for recruits. He is the best QB June has ever had and would be able to mentor our QBs.
His NFL career is over, so why not?
Colt Brennan has everything and more than Klem except technical line experience... He knows the passing offense and has NFL experience. He would be a motivator and animated personality on the sideline at game time. He would wear RED and do a photo op with Peruna. He could open more doors than Klem. Every kid in the country who plays football knows of him. He is single, I saw Shakti Stream playing volleyball a couple of months ago and she is looking fine and a pretty good little athlete herself.
