Recruits & education

Post by soccermom »

Hopefully the recruits are smart enough to know that the education they will get from SMU is so valuable. They will have life after football and a degree from SMU will definitely be a huge benefit for them.

For those who understand recruiting rules better than I do (which is to say damned near anyone on the planet), what are the contact rules for reaching out to these commits right now? I read something in other posts about not being able to return messages until April for some recruits (not sure if that is just for the 2013 class or not), but it would seem to me we need to get Jeff or (ideally) June on a plane ASAP to try and shore up some of the CA kids and remind them that they committed to SMU and what it offers, not just to Klemm's personality. Again, I know nothing about the contact rules for stuff like that but surely there is a way to reach out to these kids and reassure them that they made the right decision. We'll no doubt still lose some, but I'm not ready to give up on this class just because AK walks out the door.

UCLA is rated pretty high in regards to education. In fact in some articles much higher than SMU.

Love it - 'Pony!

However I learned long ago that you have to look at the school within the school - not necessarily the total university. I know SMOOO has some schools like business & those specific majors in the b-school along with specific engineering majors that rank higher than many of the alledgedly elite universites out there. So do other universities like us.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The rule for not being able to return messages until April only applies to juniors in high school.

Thanks. Now the second question is, who is on the next plane to LAX to talk to these kids?

Klemm got our foot in the door with some of these kids. But once the foot is in the door, it is selling the school and the position coach they will actually work with.

We might lose a couple, but whomever we lose may have bailed in the end anyway, because their commitments weren't as strong. They were waiting on west coast offers.

It is like sales in business. A good salesperson gets your foot in the door and starts the conversation. In the end, they buy your product. And if the original sales person leaves, that doesn't necessarily change their decision. It might make the quality of the product more of a deciding factor, but that is it. And I think that at SMU, we now have a quality product to offer.

I predict we lose 5-6 (including midterms) and those will be the ones that really hurt-the creme of the crop

I am going to predict 2 maybe 3 total. We will be okay for this class IMO.

My question is this, surely to assume that our recruits will follow Klemm requires there to be available scholarships. So should we not be.obsessing over the commits that UCLA has lost before we wonder about which of ours are going to take them?

Making phone calls should be it. Let's focus on beating Pitt. I want an 8-5 season.
