Regarding AK's replacement

Post by Dutch »

no matter who it is, half of you will say it's a good hire and go on and on about all the connections the guy has, and the other half will absolutely loath it and be convinced that we should just close shop and quit football altogether.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Very true; we should all accept the end of the world as we know it. Given that we have no money, no prestige, no ability to draw anybody to our humble little hole in the wall university, why even bother. For those who are a little slow, that is called sarcasm.

How about this idea: Two recruiters/Asst HC in charge of whatever the hell you want: Eric Dickerson, West Coast Recruitin Coordinator and Ron Meyer, Recruiting Coordinator Texas/East Coast. Play on Ron's former ties to the Pats to get in front of some kids out east, plus he knows how to recruit Texas and sell SMU (granted this time he'll have to do it without a payroll). Both are incredible advocates for the school and would bring the enthusiasm for SMU that many have said is lacking among some of the current coaches. I know it has been suggested in other threads, but upon reflection it is not a totally ridiculous notion to consider.

Regarding AK's replacement

Ryan. In regards to the thought of hiring two guys to replace one. June was saying at lunch he was more in favor of fewer coaches than more.

Thanks, Dutch, that is good to know. I hope he (or the COC) has a name in mind. No doubt the contingency planning was already in the works. The writing was on the wall that AK's departure was a question of when not if. Next few days should be interesting.

Regarding AK's replacement

Make no doubt he had asked for permission to speak to ucla. Just like June had spoken to his superiors about talking to asu. They knew klemm would be leaving

Can you imagine a recruiting team of ED and Colt Brennan. I think that would be outstanding. Probably nothing that JJ would consider as I don't think ED wants to wear leis.

That or now may be the time to get a new staff and let the new HC get started as opposed to hanging on to JJ who just might be trying to play out his 3 years for his 6 million.

I honestly don't think losing Klemm will hurt us that much in this class but where it will hurt the most is the 2013 class and future classes.

That seems like a bad idea. If you hire several good recruiters, the impact of losing one won't be so devastating.

Here's a novel idea...why don't we stop with the west coast BS and actually hire guys that KNOW Texas recruiting and can establish in-state pipelines rather than inner city LA kids that have no freaking clue what or where SMU is.

Yes, we can cherry pick good kids in other states, but as we see with the departure of AK...those inroads are only good for the tenure of the coach that has them. Let's get back to basics and recruit TEXAS kids - just like evry other successful program in this state does.

How many Cali kids did TCU take when they were rising up??

klemm worked cali b/c that's what he knew, that's where he's from. and it's not like there's no talent out there. just less competition from other schools.

Oh, I understand why we did that while we had AK - he had the inroads there. And we tried to milk that. But as we see now, that goes to s hit once your guy leaves. Why not build something that can sustain a coach or two leaving?

In theory, if we replace him with a thousand monkeys with a thousand cell phones they will eventually recruit a top QB.
