Boycott Sports Illustrated?

Postby PonyPower » Wed Apr 17, 2002 4:32 pm

SI's "Dr. Z" (a.k.a. Paul Zimmerman) has always been an arrogant jerk. He annoys fellow sportswriters, fans, stadium security staff, pressbox waiters, etc. And look at the little gem he offered up in his (on-line) mock draft, in which he calls for the KC Chiefs to draft Oregon QB Joey Harrington:

"Before he dies, Lamar Hunt wants to say that he saw the Chiefs draft a really good QB. This has never happened. I guess the closest might be Todd Blackledge, for a while a terrific prospect. (Don't forget that Len Dawson originally was drafted by the Steelers.)"

-----------------------

What a classless old man Zimmerman is. He's the epitome of a sportswriter who never had the coordination to play a sport, so he takes every available shot at others in sports - including owners.

How dare he talk that way about one of the great Mustangs, talking about his death. Lamar is about 50 years younger than Dr Z, so he should be worried about accomplishing something in his own lifetime, rather than worrying about someone else's mortality. And it's safe to say Lamar Hunt has accomplished a hell of a lot more in his life than Dr Z ever will. His columns have been going downhill for about 20 years. Time to put that guy out to pasture.

I don't understand what is so wrong with what Zimmerman said? I don't think he was implying that Hunt was going to die in the near future I just think he was saying that Hunt wanted the opportunity to draft a recognizable, big name QB. I have read that same statement on ESPN.com from Len Pasquarelli. I can understand you not liking a sports writer but don't you think that is a little harsh?

the only reason why I will boycott SI is because they failed to put Cael Sanderson on the cover of SI last week. They admit that Cael's being the first to finish his ENTIRE FOUR YEAR NCAA CAREER UNDEFEATED AND WITH FOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THE SECOND BEST COLLEGIATE CAREER EVER behind Jesse Owen's and still decided to put the cover story of the NHL fan's death on the cover.
Cael Sanderson is doing for college wrestling what McGuire and Sosa did for baseball. Hell he did more for wrestling this year than they did. At least baseball teams weren't falling off the face of the earth like college wrestling teams are now as a result of Title IX.
SI is great in general but sometimes they hack me off.
As for Zimmerman, look at his preseason writeup of NFL teams last year and you will see that he had Patriots ranked 28th...28TH!!! He is, in my opinion, a moron. I mean I wouldn't have guessed NE would have won the Super Bowl either. But that guy is usually wrong all the time. Swami is better at picking winners than he is and we all know how bad Swami is.

Maybe you're right, Mac. Sorry (a little) to go off like that.
Just can't stand a yahoo like that even discussing a great Mustang.
