TCU is our rival. It doesn't bother me that they're moving to the MWC as long as:

1) we can become competitive with them again, and

2) our series with them continues indefinitely.

Having said that, I think it would be nice to develop some kind of rivalry with a school in C-USA since it appears we'll be there for a while.
Always a Connecticut Yankee, but happy in Texas since January 1986.

we've never drawn well against any of our future CUSA opponents and I suspect the only way we will ever develop a good rivalry with any of them is if SMU regularly competes for western division championships with one of them. Right now, Mike price appears to be building a pretty strong program at UTEP. While we have more in common with Rice, Tulsa and Tulane, it would probably be easier for SMU to develop a rivalry with UTEP or Houston (that public vs private thing)...but when all is said and done, TCU will remain our strongest and most logical rival. I actually think we would have had a much better chance of developing a CUSA rivalry with UNT if they had been invited instead of UTEP, but I agree UTEP is a better choice for the conference because they appear to be on their way to developing pretty competitive football and bball programs and enjoy the strongest fan support of any CUSA west school.

don't play on Thanksgiving

Postby Demented in Dallas » Mon Dec 20, 2004 12:05 am

I don't think a Thanksgiving weekend came is a good idea, either.
Let's just leave that weekend to the traditional UT-A&M, USC-UCLA and Alabama-Auburn games of the world. You think SMU-Rice would capture any attention over UT-A&M, even if it was played on a different day? And as was mentioned before, I don't think we'd draw squat on the holiday weekend.

Plus, if God helps us and ever lets us win the Western Division, that's one week before what will be the CUSA Conference Championship Game. I'd rather have the extra week off.

amen to the stuff about resting b4 the title game

tulane = New Orlenas
New Orleans = Paradise City - think about it - going to NOLA in mid Nov - its warm, great bars and clubs, great music, great food and off season rates on hotels.. its a scene, man.

EK - you missed the last trip to NOLA. Where were you?
