Mitch Enright in Dominating Performance

Postby Stallion » Sat Dec 18, 2004 4:31 pm

I got a chance to concentrate on Mitch Enright for about 3/4ths of Southlake Carroll's last play victory in the State Championship. Enright drive blocks, pass blocks, pulls, traps, seals, gets out on the screen, and releases from his guard spot to pick off the outside rush on the blind side. I never saw his man come close to making a play. He has unbelievable balance and footwork. He is an especially polished pass blocker which you don't always see in high school. At SLC he plays guard but he is the pro-type center for college football. I'm sure SMU would like to redshirt Enright just as they would for any freshman but I have little doubt that he could play and play well next year.

Agreed - I thought he looked terrific. There was one play in particular when the left tackle stepped inside and Enright slipped behind him to pick up the oncoming defensive end .... and just about swallowed him alive. He didn't block guys, he completely eliminated them.

Congratulations on your state championship, Mitch.

I saw him pick up the back side rush at least 4 times-every time perfectly taking the DE out of the play.

Happy about this recruit? Or VERY Happy?

SMU has a good group of Big Men so far, but I would have like to seen a couple JUCOs to join the herd.

Oh, Well, Coach B has a 5 more years or maybe 4 before his next contract extention.

I think it would be good for SMU to keep a coach for 10 to 15 years. Now for that to happen, it would need to be 10 years of winning.

I watched him do the same thing last week against Lufkin. He moves quick, protects backside & picks up the blitz well, too. You seldom see his man made the first hit on the RB/QB.

He's a damn good grab for us.

I also want #19 Clint Renfro, only a jr. but very fluid.

Renfro is fast - real fast. And he catches everything. Sure would like to add him to the SMU rister.

Our man Mitch seems strong - they kept talking about how he's starting for four years. Could he really play as a true freshman? I'm hoping we get to the point when none of our linemen - no matter how talented - get to play as freshmen. Welcome aboard, Mitch!

I like the fact that Bennett is getting commitments from a bunch of big guys for this class and it would be great if he had the luxury of redshirting all of them. Although it's rare on the OL, talented freshman play for even the top programs in the country and I have no problem whatsoever with any freshman coming in and becoming an immediate starter. Let's get the 10 best horses we've got on that OL 2 deep and start winning more games!

You're right -- more offensive line DEPTH. The guys who played for us this year showed some ability. Will they be great? Remains to be seen. But there's no way we can count on getting through the season that healthy on the offensive line again. Sean Lobo needs to be ready, but a newcomer or two had better be ready, too. Hopefully, we can find a good JUCO lineman or two.
