SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

And how exactly has he not offered the same in return? I want facts and not conjecture, please.

He (or someone who worked for him, i.e., his agent) let out the fact that he was about to sign on the dotted line with ASU on the same day SMU was announcing its acceptance of an invite to the Big East, thus taking away from what was supposed to be a day focused on SMU. Shoulda kept it under wraps until after. That lacks respect, fairness, and common decency.

It's really becoming a tiring exercise when people have to always DRAW PICTURES for ponyboy and yet he tells you how he wants the picture drawn.

Figure it out on your own, buddy.

Ok, I'll play with that assumption that it was someone under Jones' control that let out the info. When would have been a better time? The day after it was announced? The day before? A week after? And how long would ASU have been willing to wait on an announcement?

Read my post, "Shoulda kept under wraps until after." That would have been showing respect, fairness, and common decency.

So the day after the announcement is good for you, jt? We announce Big East on day one and June says he's leaving on day two?

Not trying to be a smart [deleted] or difficult. Just trying to understand your position so I can figure out just how evil this coach is.

You asked for facts that showed he has not offered respect, fairness and common decency in return to SMU and letting that stuff out on that day qualifies. Do with that what you will.

Culpability requires not just that Jones initiated the events in question, which assumption I've granted, but also that alternatives exist which would lessen the offense. When would you have had him let the info out? Would the day after have been better? A week later?

Don't get into a legal argument with me. First, it's no assumption that Jones is responsible for putting it out there. Check the dates on his superagent's twitter feed. An agent's conduct is imputed to the principal in every jurisdiction. Second, I disagree with your defintion of culpbablity, if you kill somebody on a Monday or a Tuesday, it doesn't matter in the legal analysis. But I refer you to my initial response, AGAIN, for my thoughts on the answer to your question.

Answer the question, jt!

Given the circumstances, when would you have had June let the info out? Does the day after, in your opinion, make it a less egregious offense?

I am just trying to understand your position. If you don't have one, you have no business assigning any blame.

Kiss off, I have as much business to "assign blame" as you do to spout Joneshine here.

You love talking in circles and are polished in debate class. June Jones is jerk. He manipulated this situation and got caught red handed. If you are trying to make this more than what it is, then I can't help you.

Apparently, no one else can either.

Just go to continue to kiss June's [deleted]. We know you're good at that.

Ok, so you believe the day after would have been better. Day one we announce the Big East. Day two June says he's leaving.

I'm not sure that's better, but I'm far from the public relations expert.

You did not ask for better, you asked "And how exactly has he not offered the same in return? I want facts and not conjecture, please."

And I gave them to you. Now, move along.

Sigh. At the risk of beating a dead horse, the point is when Jones was leaving Hawaii, he kept that info quiet (and insisted that everyone else under his control and at SMU do so) until after the DEAL WAS ACTUALLY DONE and after the Sugar Bowl so as not to interfere with preparations for the biggest game in Hawaii's history. It's not just that he should have waited to announce his FLIRTATION with ASU until the day after a the Big East announcement (which he was scheduled to be present at, by the way), but that had he respected SMU as much as he respected Hawaii, he would have made sure that the deal was done and signed before word was leaked regarding negotiations (by his own people) AND recognized that UNECESSARILY injecting insecurity, doubt, instability etc. into what should have been a 100% positive news story about SMU was not respectful.

I would also suggest that the statement that Tom Mason came out with is more honest and respsectful of SMU -- as he (1) admits he actually received an offer, rather than pretending like nothing happened and expecting everyone to believe him over the representations made by his own agent, ASU, and other, and (2) says SMU is where he wants to be because he loves SMU and loves Dallas, not because he has a charity in inner city Dallas, and being employed by SMU allows him to keep being involved in that charity.
