Hard to lose that one but they shot lights out and only squeaked by us. I thought Williams looked great for his first game. JFrog had a bad game and our free throws were awful. Otherwise we would have battered them

Maybe should have played Dallas Christian High School in first game after Exams-historically always the worst played game every year. I'd love to be able to go back through the years and show how many turds we've laid in the first game after exams.

so Hoopman - we created a system to use, but I think you are right in these guys, they seem to be adapt to playing more up tempo. If you have Manuel, Cunningham, Smith, Willams, and Rob/Giles - surely they could run a little. We still look soft to me, no toughness.

A few things...

1. Obviously, free throw shooting.

2. I like J-Frog, but at the end of the game when JSU needed buckets, they gave the ball to whoever he was guarding for an easy shot over him. He is a huge defensive liability. I'd bet #12 for JSU had most of his points when J-Frog was guarding him. I don't want to throw him under the bus, but Manuel's D >J-Frog's offense...and neither Frog or Manuel had a good offensive game tonight.

3. Shawn Williams will be a good player for us. The offense went through him late in the 2nd half when we needed buckets. The jumper wasn't there tonight but he got to the rim at will late in the game. It looked to me like he split the minutes at small forward with Jalen. I'd like to see them play together a little more, as they are 2 of our 3 best players.

4. I have no clue who subs in and when, and why. Some of the lineups on the floor made me scratch my head, especially in the crucial final minutes of the game. Some of the guys will get their feelings hurt, but by the time conference play comes around we need to see some defined roles. Doh loves his upperclassmen, so I doubt they will get benched even though 1 or 2 probably should.

And not that it has to do with anything, but we were on a high school court tonight, which I believe is 10 feet less than college floors

No way shaka comes here IMO. I saw firsthand the presence / support etc vcu had at final four. It'd be many steps back coming to SMU.

I like amaker.

Careful...you weren't there so you don't have the right to comment on this game, according to some on this board.

It sounds like the SMU defense was terrible and we don't have a lock down defender that could shut down Kelsey Howard.... a freshman? 5-13 on FREE throws and we have a renowned shooting coach? I agree we are young but these are D-1 talented kids that should know better than to allow Jackson State to even be in the game...am disappointed to say the least. Well on to Dallas Christian High for a win next....

But what about the length of the court? What about exams? What about the pressure of playing in Oak Cliff? Is this the "progress" the program has made in five (5) years? Is this the progress SMU basketball has made since March 2011? Good grief - it's Jackson 1-9, now 2-9, freakin' State. It doesn't matter if you're playing them in the Safeway parking lot.
(And, yes, I was there.)

It's not schtick. And you're fair game since you went after me. I have watched us play in person -- THIS SEASON.

That's fine that you have your own set of rules to accept opinions from those whose opinion you value.

Personally, I don't care if you like or dislike my opinion.

When you can be honest with yourself about this program, then maybe I'll value your opinion.
