Me and my best friend was gifted to be able to see almost every home and away game that Eric Dickerson ever played in at SMU.

So, my vote is 100% YES!

Have to ask the old timers about Doak Walker, but Eric was the best RB I ever saw at SMU.

I don't know the answer as we also had Doak Walker, Kyle Rote, and some others I am not remembering now, but I will say ED is in the conversation and wherever he ranks it would not take long to get to his name.

Dickerson is the best running back that ever played at SMU. The best all around back was Doak Walker. He could run with the ball, place kick, play defensive back, return kicks and was a good passer.

Eric and Earl Campbell were the two best I ever saw in person. Herschel Walker won the Heisman during Eric's senior year, but Herschel wasn't nearly as good. I think that their NFL careers were indicative of who was the better back.

Without question. For a 3 year period starting with his Senior year at SMU through his record breaking (still standing) NFL Single Season Rushing Record, he was the greatest RB ever to play. He set the NFL Rookie Rushing record as wll which still stands also

During the Pony Express days, while Craig was good, we just wanted ED to get the ball everytime. He was so much better. I've seen and spoke to ED a couple of times the last two years - what a class guy.

We have had others not yet mentioned Reggie Dupard, M&M boys and one of my favorites Gary Hammond. Zach will also be on the list.

doak built smu's reputation....eric and craig were the best team i have ever seen...and i have seen doak,kyle,hammond,dupard,etc....craig and eric ran differently...eric could accelerate faster than any back i have ever seen ...and it looked paced,not hurried...charles,while he was with us could do the same...remember eric and craig were backups to a better running back,in the view of our coaches...he got hurt...waggoner,was his name...

I would add that I think it is possible that the greatest running back SMU ever signed was Charles Waggoner. Many of you will remember that he was in the same class as Eric Dickerson and Craig James and appeared to be the best of the three until an injury ruined his career early on. If I'm not mistaken Charles came out of Carter High in Dallas.
