LSU best team ever?

If they when the next game they would beat the number 2 ranked team 3 times they beat the pac 12 champ and big east champ plus arky the bulldogs plus Bama and their number 1 def not once but twice.I cant think of another team from years gone by with a better body of work in 1 season can you

I think 81-82 SMU Football Team would pimp slap LSU. You could also make an argument for some of the "U" teams, when Jimmy Johnson was coaching there.

I don't see LSU beating the 82 Mustangs, or those mid 80's Canes. LSU's offense wouldn't be able to do anything against either teams defense. In fact, I see Bama beating LSU the 2nd time around.

ok let me go check and see how many top 5 teams the U beat in 81.Also im talking about overall body of work in one season if you think the atletes from 30 years ago could pimp slap todays kids your insane lineman today run fatser than most running backs and wide outs did back in those days are you going to tell me the Notre dame teams from the 30s would smash LSU also

Best of all time ALL TIME??? Nope, Many can contend for that, the Convicts era Hurricanes, Tom Osbourne's Huskers,Bear Bryant's Tide, Woody Hayes Buckeyes, Oklahoma won 49 straight. And then there is the 1901 Michigan Wolverines. They outscored their opponents 550 - 0 in route to winning the first ever Rose Bowl. In the era where the forward pass was forbidden and some of the games were played in 20 minute halves. All before Fritz Crisler brought in the winged helmets mind you.

There's no such thing as greatest of all time because every era is so different. Personally LSU already beat Alabama, Oklahoma State deserved their shot. You play a first half like LSU did vs Georgia against the Cowboys and you are in a 21-0 hole. National championships were actually clearer before the BCS.

National championships were not clearer before the BCS ask the early 80s mustangs.However you do make a good point on the era.Let me just say that IF LSU beats the number 2 team for the third time in a year they are on the short list no one else has EVER beat so many top ranked teams in one year.As for that turn of the century Big Blue team most ppl where worried about polio and trying not to get killed by wildlife than football :mrgreen:

Apparantly Wolverines killed a lot of people in 1901. Wow this is the 110th anniversary of the Rose Bowl.... I wish Michigan could have gotten there. Alabama had their shot, at home and LOST. Okie State is being screwed to high hell. And everybody wonders why a lot of FANS of the big AQ teams want playoffs, well there it is. I know if they existed Michigan probably wouldn't have 11 National Championships (they might have more from the era they boycotted Bowl games). LSU is gonna smoke check Alabama. The only way there is not a clear national champion is if Bama wins and Okie State wins. I just don't like the matchup. But if Bama came in 3, the Sugar would have had them and who????? wouldn't have been Michigan because Michigan and Alabama kick off the 12 season at Jerry World. maybe Boise???? BAMA WAS NOT ALLOWED to finish 3, where they should have.

Agreed i would much rather see okie state play but i feel with the way the sooners lost to baylor plus okie states lose to the cyclones it seald their fate.

One look at that list and you have to be kidding yourself if you thought that program was clean. Those aren't just NFL players, they are big names...

Too much love for this LSU team, and I have personal ties to the team. First off way too much love for the SEC this year. Maybe the deepest conference around but they really lacked the top level teams. Looking at LSU's schedule the big wins are Oregon (huge, but basically a home game for LSU), Alabama (Huge, but several missed FGs helped them help), then Arkansas (Big win). After that they play a very solid schedule but they beat a Georgia team in the SEC championship game that Boise went into Georgia and beat this year. I know go ahead and dismiss that game like everyone else would (rule of thumb always dismiss a Boise win over another BCS school, it's always a fluke, or the team wasn't playing well at the time, or they didn't take them seriously, fill in your excuse here). Florida wasn't nearly all that good this year. Mississippi State over rated. Auburn a ghost of the team from last year. And WV, please.

So, I'm not denying LSU is the #1 team and they play in the #1 conference. And I am rooting for them to win the national championship, again personal ties to the team. I'm just saying there is no way they are the best team ever. This wasn't even the best year ever for the SEC. Could they beat Auburn from last year even? Everyone always think, THIS year's team is the best ever. There were some really good Miami teams, FSU teams, Notre Dame teams, UT teams, USC teams, etc. No way they are the best team ever.

I hear you most of my family live around Baton Rouge and I lived there for years so.Let me rephrase the question has there ever been a team that has beatin mors top 5 opponents in one year I dont think so all i am say is that their body of work this year cant be compared to
