Women Blow Away San Diego State...wow!
Women's team is off to a 9-1 start, best start in program history, after beating SDSU 80-36 (each half was a perfect 40-18 ). Katie Gross led the ponies with 26 points including 6 OF 7 FROM 3-PT LAND! That's incredible!
Way to go ladies! Except for that TCU loss, they are playing awesome! Let's get some good momentum and confidence going into conference. With La Tech's program on the fritz, we may have a shot at winning this thing this year.

From high on the hilltop, in Big D...
Oh, yeah! Katie was on FIRE tonight!! What a great way for the Mustangs to start their Christmas break. Loved the end of the game with Kendall and Shonte screaming from the bench, "DON'T LET 'EM SCORE!!!"" Tonight was a highlight moment for #4.
On to conference play with Rice coming in next Thursday.
Go Mustangs!

The scary part is anyone who was at the game (all 15 of us) can tell you that the score actually makes it look closer than it really was. San Diego didn't get to 10 points until the last couple of minutes of the first half.
EVERYONE needs to come out and support Rhonda and her team, they look to be far more successful this year than the men.

26 points and 6 steals were both career highs for Katie Gross. Her 6/7 performance (85.7%) from 3 point range was a team single game percentage record (Minimum 4 attempts).
36 points is the fewest allowed by the Lady Mustangs since beating UTEP 66-31 in El Paso, in 2000. Its also the fewest allowed in Moody Coliseum since a 103-36 victory over Prairie View in 1991. The Lady Mustangs are first in the WAC in Team Defense, allowing just 53 points per game, and have held 7 of their 10 opponents under 50.
The Dallas Morning News and the official SMU press release both erroneously reported that the 44 point margin of victory tied a Moody Coliseum record. The actual record is 53 points, set in a 97-44 win over TCU, in 1992. That game also set an NCAA record for fewest points allowed in a half (8). Last nights game tied for the second largest winning margin.

Re:
Is 15 really an accurate turnout for the game? I knew women's basketball drew very poorly at most universities (excluding Tennessee, Texas Tech and a handful of others), but didn't realize that attendance could be less than 50.couch 'em wrote:The scary part is anyone who was at the game (all 15 of us)
Legitimate attendance that night was around 300. You can usually count on at least 100 friends and relatives of the players, since most of them come from the Dallas area, or at least from inside Texas. If one of the kids basketball groups (PIPs, TOPs, etc.) is performing at halftime, you can count on at least another 100-150 parents there to see the kids. Attendance can vary a bit upwards from there, depending on who the opponent is.
There was a fairly good sized group of fans from Southlake, there to see Kate Eveland, San Diego States point guard, who went to high school at Southlake Carroll. One of them was her younger sister, who I hear we will be recruiting hard next year.
One other mildly interesting note: San Diego State guard Michelle Strawberry is the neice of former baseball All-Star Darryl Strawberry. She looked like a good athlete, but I think only scored 4 points, or so.

You wouldn't know what to do with her if she did call you. Besides, she probably doesn't fit your "profile."Spaz wrote:I'd rather have the entire San Diego team transfer to SMU. Not to play, just to BE here. MAN WERE THEY HOT. HOLY CRAP

That's Kate Eveland, the Southlake Carroll girl referenced above.
